 MATERNAL MORTALITY-
300 to 30 in 3 years
in

Bellary District- Karnataka

Extended to Koppal District, Shimogga

District and shortly to Gangavathi and
Raichur Districts of Karnataka. Our
resource persons are traveling across the
country - Ahmedabad, Mysore, Bangalore,
Gulbarga and other places spreading the
success of EMOC Skilltraining Progamme
 §

 

Programmes and activities are being

undertaken by the
SAFE MOTHERHOOD COMMITTEEE OF
BELLARY
to reduce the Maternal Mortality to
µ3o¶
by 2012
and subsequently ZERO by 2015.
 
 

 Dividing Bellary district in to four zones-

east, west, north and south.
 Four resource teams are formed with a
Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant
Professors.
 Each batch will conduct EMOC STP to all
the 24X7 Medical Officers, once in six
months.
 
 

 Random surprise visit to the FRUs to check

on the spot practical problems and Sepsis
module.
 Developing EMOC HELP line and Network
of all the medical officers with the Labour
room and Resource persons.
 Interaction with MO when ever a case is
referred as per module
 §
  

 Separate resource persons comprising of doctors

and staff nurses to sensitise the staff Nurses,
paramedical staffs, SBAs and ASHA workers.
 Meeting other health providers and teaching
EMOC Modules.
 Meeting and addressing all the Medical Officers in
the DHO office once a month during their
monthly meeting. Interacting with the medical

[ith these measures the Maternal

Mortality of Bellary has been brought
down to 124 by the end of 2009.
( reduced by 50% in 2009)


 

 Replacing Antenatal Oral Iron by ± IV

Sucrose
 IV Sucrose 400mg for all postpartum
patients.
 Developing ± Safe delivery facilities in all
the FRUs.
 By 2015 all pregnant women must have
INSTITUTIONAL DELIVERY.

 Developing a Database covering all the

pregnant women, any given time, in Bellary
District and recognizing the High ±Risk
Pregnancies.
 µThink Tank¶ to develop newer methods to
reduce the maternal mortality to
ZERO by 2015.
