The Boy Scout Advancement
Principles of Boy Scout Advancement

1. The advancement / recognitions are the natural outcome of

the boys’ participation during Troop and or Patrol Meetings /
Activities and Programs.

2. Advancement is fundamentally a recognition of what the boy

is able to do. It is not a reward for what he has done.

3. Mean to the achievement of an objective, the development of a

healthy personality among all Scouts.

4. Learning by doing is essentially an element of the Scout

Method. The repeatedly undertaking of Scout activities to
learn Scoutcraft causes the development of right attitudes,
skills and habits.

5. A preparation for SERVICE. To equip ones self for selfless

service to GOD, Country and other people.

6. Learning from within rather than to instruct from without. Not

to instruct but to educate, is merely motivating them to learn
for himself, his own desire while building up character in him.

7. Recognizes that the boy progresses at his own rate of speed in

terms of ambition, time, resourcefulness and ability.

8. Ultimately, the objective is not to produce Eagle Scouts nor

Leaping Usa, but fine young men of character, trained for
service to other and responsible citizenship.
