HOW TO GET TO

CEBU CITY
Here are the few easy guidelines for
transportation
BACOLOD-CEBU(VIA CERES BUS)
 Traveling from Bacolod Cebu is cheaper than spending P1,500 pesos
for an airline tickets.

 There are five different bus routes between Bacolod and Cebu but the
quickest routes is Don Salvador. The other routes are via Escalante-
Tabuelan, via Escalante-Toledo, via Canlaon, and via Mabinay.

 The total fare from Bacolod to Cebu is ₱585.00. The Ceres buses are
air-conditioned and there are trips every day. Some of the bus units
also have functional restrooms. They sell tickets or give out seat
numbers ahead of time so it’s best to get to the terminal about 2
hours before the time of departure to secure a seat.
 Go to Bacolod South Bus Terminal located in Libertad.
 Ride a CERES Bus with a signage Cebu via Don
Salvador.
 Then, pay terminal fee at San Carlos Port for P20/head.
 Alight either in Cebu South Bus Terminal or Cebu North
Bus Terminal.
TIPS💬
 Check the schedule of the bus and ferry of each terminal/port or
company. - This can help you manage your time and save money
to avoid waiting and/or renting a hotel/buying food just for the next
trip.

 Best time from Cebu City is the early morning at 4am.

 From Bacolod, catch the last trip of the bus which is 2:30pm. So
you can a bit travel in the city before coming home.
History of Cebu
•Cebu is a province in the Philippines consisting of the Cebu
Island and many other surrounding islands. It derived its name
from the word “SEBU” meaning animal fat. It is known to be a
fishing village before the Spaniards came but became
industrialized through the years. It is now one of the most
developed provinces in the Philippines, with Cebu City as the
center of commerce and industry.
Cebu City, the capital of Cebu, is
considered to be the oldest city in the
Philippines. It is also known as the
oldest settlement established by the
Spaniards in the country.
•Found in the island are rich traces of the Philippine history left by mostly the
Spaniards. Among these historical sites are the Magellan’s Cross found in
downtown Cebu (a Christian cross planted by the Portuguese and Spanish
explorers as ordered by Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Cebu on April 1521),
the Lapu-Lapu Shrine (a 20-meter statue found in Mactan erected in honor
of Datu Lapu-Lapu, a native leader who killed Magellan), the Colon Street (the
oldest and the shortest national road in the Philippines), the Fort San
Pedro (the oldest military defence structure built by the Spanish and indigenous
Cebuano labourers under the command of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi),

plenty of food. The people really spend time just to prepare for this event.
Sinulog celebration happened every 3rd Sunday of January. This fiesta celebration in Cebu
has grown which has its own roots in the Philippine popular piety in devotion to Santo
Nino (Child Jesus). Since 1980, the government of Cebu City organized the Sinulog Festival
and provides rewards for those who can perform more meaningful expression of the
devotion through tribal dances, which are usually done by groups.

•The people are called Cebuanos or Sugbuanons. Their spoken dialect is
native Cebuano. They are known to be religious because Cebu opened the
gate to Christianity during the Spanish regime(this is based on the history

The Heritage of Cebu Monument
A short walk from Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, you will find the prestigious Heritage of Cebu
Monument. Located in the original Plaza Parain in Colon Street, Cebu City, the landmark is a
tableau of monumental sculptures showcasing the most important events in the history of Cebu
from the time of Rajah Humabon to the recent beatification of Cebuano martyr Pedro Calunsod.
The monument is a work of national artist Edgardo Castrillo. It was started in July 1997 and
inaugurated on December 8, 2000.
The Taoist Temple
From Colon Street or Cebu downtown you can ride a taxi to visit and behold the
beauty of The Taoist Temple. Located in Beverly Hills Subdivision in Cebu City, the
Taoist Temple is one of the most popular tourist spots in the city. It was built in
1972 by Cebu’s Chinese community, and is the center of worship for Taoism. The
temple is open for worshippers and tourists. You have to take a lot of steps to reach
the temple, hence, make sure you still have the energy to go on.
•Mactan Shrine is not located within Cebu City but don’t miss
the opportunity to visit the 20-meter tall monument of Rajah
Lapu-Lapu, the first Filipino hero who was responsible for
defeating the Spaniards and killing Spanish Conquistador
Ferdinand Magellan during the battle of Mactan in April 27, 1521.
Mactan Shrine is located in Punta Engano Section of Lapu Lapu
City in Mactan Island.
