and impulses and to manage them best
according to the situation.

In Working with Emotional Intelligence, Goleman
(1998) writes that EI…
“refers to the capacity for recognizing our own
feelings and those of others, for motivating
ourselves, and for managing emotions well in
ourselves and in our relationships” (p. 317)

•Where Does EQ Come From?
• The source of EQ is our Thinking
• Three Dimensions of Thinking:

• Intrinsic Thinking – One’s ability to see the uniqueness in

other people, themselves, and things around them.
• Extrinsic Thinking – One’s ability to see how people and
things relate and compare to each other (i.e. relative or
comparative thinking).
• Systemic Thinking – One’s ability to think in black and
white terms, and their ability to focus on their ideal view
of people, the world around them, as well as themselves.
