NOMINAL & VERBAL SENTENCES OF PAST TENSE.
Indicates continuing action, something that was happening, going on, at some
point in the past. Both action occurred at the same time, but one action began
earlier and was in progress when the other action occurred. We use clause
connector : when and while. This tense is formed with the helping "to be"
verb, in the past tense, plus the present participle of the verb (with an -
ing ending):
The Formula of Past Progressive :
(+) S + was/were + present participle ( v-ing) + o + c
(-) S + was/were + not + present participle (v-ing) + o + c
(?) was/were + s + present participle (v-ing) + o + c
(?) Wh + was/were + s + present participle (v-ing) + o + c

Exceptions when adding 'ed' : Exceptions when adding 'ing' :
when the final letter is e, only add d. silent e is dropped (but: does not apply for -
