INFORMATION
• Information is knowledge about a particular subject, issue,
event or process. It is a stimuli that has meaning in some
context for its receiver
• It can be obtained from various sources -
– you can be told information, for example through a lecture or a
television programme; or
– you can find information through your own research
DIMENSIONS OF INFORMATION
• Relevance • Format
• Accuracy • Accessibility
• Timeliness • Compatibility
• Completeness • Security
• Coherence • Validity
POWER
POWER
Power is a measure of a person's ability to control the
environment around them, including the behavior of other
people.

A capacity that A has to influence the behavior of B so that B acts

in accordance with A’s wishes.

DEPENDENCY
B’s relationship to A when A possesses something that B requires
INFORMATION AS POWER
• Power that comes from access to and control over information
• Power of having information that another does not have, or, the
distribution of information as a means of effecting change
• People who know how to find information have tremendous power
• Informational Power can be used to measure and improve tasks,
processes, and strategies
• Facts and data can be manipulated and presented to appear
rational and help to make the use of power and influence less
obvious
• Sometimes it is a short-term power that doesn't necessarily
influence or build credibility
EXAMPLE
• For example, a project manager may have all the information
for a specific project, and that will give her "informational
power." But it's hard for a person to keep this power for long,
and eventually this information will be released. This should
not be a long-term strategy.
