RESULTS & DISCUSSION
• Successful reconstitution and exposure to intracytoplasmic sperm of
oocytes
• Four out of five fertilized and developed into blastocysts
• One out of four embryos euploid, three aneuploid
• Comparison of mtDNA sequence of mother, donor, and embryo
showed an average transmission rate of 5.10±1.11%
• Transfer of euploid embryo led to uneventful pregnancy
• Genotyping of baby expressed a normal karyotype
CONCLUSION
• Spindle transfer may minimize the transmission of mutant mtDNA
from a carrier mother to her child.
• MST accomplished carryover rate of less than 6%.
• As of 7 months, baby is still asymptomatic.
