The oldest water works known are the irrigation
systems builts in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Middle Asia
and China
The chinese recorded observations of wind and
precipitation as early as 1200 B.C.
The concept of a dynamic hydrologic cycle may be
found in China by 900 B.C., in India.
Hydrology as a science was first defined by Pierre
Perrault, Edme Mariotte, and Edmund Halley.
Cassini and Ramazzini offered the hydrostatic
theory of artesian pressure.
Bernoulli and his son in 1738, and Chezy in 1775
discovered velocity equations known under their
names.
Pitot in 1732 and Venturi in 1798 designed
instruments to record velocity.
