INTRODUCTION

A structure essentially consists of two

parts, namely the super structure
which is above the plinth level and the
substructure which is below the plinth
level. Substructure is otherwise known
as the foundation and this forms the
base for any structure. Generally about
30% of the total construction cost is
spent on the foundation. The soil on
which the foundation rests is called the
“foundation soil”.

Shallow Foundation

Strip foundations (or strip footings) are a type of shallow

foundation that are used to provide a continuous, level (or
sometimes stepped) strip of support to a linear structure such
as a wall or closely-spaced rows of columns built centrally
above them

Pad foundations are generally shallow foundations, but can be

deep depending on the ground conditions. They are a form of
spread foundation formed by rectangular, square, or
sometimes circular concrete 'pads' that support localised
single-point loads such as structural columns, groups of
columns or framed structures.

2
Deep Foundation

A pile is basically a long cylinder of a strong material such as

concrete that is pushed into the ground to act as a steady
support for structures built on top of it.

A caisson foundation also called as pier foundation is a

watertight retaining structure used as a bridge pier, in the
construction of a concrete dam, or for the repair of ships. It is
a prefabricated hollow box or cylinder sunk into the ground to
some desired depth and then filled with concrete thus forming
a foundation

CONCLUSION

From the general conclusion value of

Terzaghi is 334.11 KN/m. The highest value in
the calculation is suitable for soil foundation
used.Terzaghi method is the perfect value for
foundation of soil.
