(Source: Rajasthan agricultural statistics at a glance for the year 2012-13)
In Rajasthan, 1.183mha of land is salt affected (AICRP,2006-2010).Salt affected soils developed
under the effect of electrolytes, which may accumulate in rocks, waters and soil layers and have a
substantial influence on soil properties. The salinization and alkalization of soils ,which is the result of
such effects ,have been well known for a long time in different parts of the world, particularly in arid
and semi-arid regions, constituting a hazard especially to irrigated lands.
Normal irrigation water generally does not affect adversely the soil properties however, the poor
quality of irrigation water is an important factor in the development of salinity and alkalinity in soils. In
Rajasthan saline ground water area where EC>6dSm-1 is 106.018 lac ha. and area where EC >4
dSm-1 is 141.036 lac ha. Water containing high amount of dissolved soluble salts affects the soil
properties. (AICRP 2006-2010)
OBJECTIVES
1. To delineate the fertility status of soil of North Eastern Part of Jodhpur District
3. To determine the quality of irrigation water of the North Eastern Part of Jodhpur District.
4. To find out the effect of poor quality water on soil as compare to unirrigated soils.
1. Georefrence survey of North Eastern Part of Jodhpur District will be conducted for
collecting ground water samples used for irrigating the crops and soil samples from
the respective field irrigated and unirrigated with ground water will also be
collected.
2. Information regarding, Name of village, Name of farmer, depth of tube well, year of
start of tube well, crops grown during last five years, inputs used in soil, farmer’s
opinion about the quality of water and its effect on crops will also be collected.
Observations to be recorded:
