Introduction
Social networking is all about facilitating people to express and
share ideas, thoughts, and opinions with others. In the recent years
social networking sites have become a part of people’s daily lives,
and with it has come a new way to communicate and interact. The
use of social networking sites in formal and non-formal learning are
well researched, but much less attention has been paid to their role
in informal learning.
The use of internet based-social media programs to make
contacts with family, friends, classmates, and clienteles
became popular in recent years. Social media sites for
example, Facebook, Twitter, Web journals, Khan Academy, and
Google docs, among other, are online instruments that offer
people to join free of cost, and enable clients to talk and
cooperate with each other.
Background of the Study
A social networking site which provides free and secure social learning space for

teachers and students to connect and collaborate is Khan Academy. This website is

actually very similar to the presentation and functionality of Facebook, which

promotes learning at anytime and anyplace. Currently there are few research

regarding the educational benefits of social networking site like Khan Academy as

related to teaching and learning. This study was conducted to determine the use

of Khan Academy as a learning tool in enhancing student’s learning experiences in

natural sciences.
Theoretical Framework

Social learning theory explains human behavior in terms of continuous

reciprocal interaction between cognitive, behavioral, and environmental.

In correlation to the study by Dr. Shannon Deaton, Social media

technologies have fundamentally changed the way that social

interaction occurs within our world.

By enhancing the cognitive processes of attention, memory,
and motivation, social media provides a platform for improving
learning in a social context and that if educators are able to
harness the potential of social media, social learning factors
may improve, and consequently, educators may positively
impact student achievement through the use of modern

Statement of the Problem

Broader issues related to the employment of technology in

enhancing learning experiences must be reviewed. This study
determines the significant effects of the use of Khan Academy
for learning natural sciences that results in enhancing student’s
learning experiences.
Significance of the Study
Students. Students will surely acquire the expected competencies or expectation needed for
them to learn natural sciences. This can also provide students insight on how to improve
their knowledge and skills through the use of social networking sites like Khan Academy.

Teachers. This will provide the initiative for teachers to reflect on their perspective towards
the use of social networking sites for learning. In effect, better understanding and utilizing
of social networking sites will be demonstrated by teachers.

Parents. This will help realize the importance of social networking sites for learning in the
education of a student. This will lead them to educate themselves to the use of SNS for
learning to their own personal interest towards the certain topic.
Scope and Delimitation

Focused on identifying use of khan academy as a tool in enhancing

student’s learning experiences in natural sciences of Senior High School

Student in Chinese General Hospital Colleges in terms of the following:

subjects, locale, research instrument, and time frame.

Local Literature
Manila has been heralded as the capital of the world and, not by coincidence,
for its political deployment of mobile phones. Sociality and personal presence
mediated by SNS address multiple forms of labor, political participation, and
identity construction through multiple modes of presentation, across diverse
contexts. To express oneself through SNS is, for our informants, not just a
matter of maintaining authentic affective relations among friends but means
continuing to be engaged in political and civic action on a national stage that
is simultaneously personal and interpersonal. (Hjorth, 2013)
Foreign Studies
The capacity of online networking to spread valuable data quickly has
made it the quickest developing method of association. Social media
networking has changed numerous businesses, however the most
striking impact of it is in the classrooms and the overall education
system. Whether it's using private social gatherings, Facebook Pages,
classroom Twitter profiles or web journals, school after school has
grasped long range of interpersonal communication using some form of
social media.
Local Studies
The application of Facebook in Higher Education is an effective medium
in teaching and learning undertakings, as mentioned by (Harris, 2013) in
the research he conducted. Similarly, the use of Edmodo as a platform in
education helps the student to be actively engaged in the subject
matter. The creation of groups and interactions among students helps
them to easily access the syllabus and communication becomes faster,
leading to a better engaged and better learning experiences.
Research Design

Quantitative descriptive type of research to gain an

understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and
motivations, which involves closed-ended survey
questionnaires of the students without having it
influenced in any way, thus cannot be manipulated.
Research Instrument
In order to collect and provide the needed data, the quantitative
method will be utilized. For this study, a survey was used the main data
collection instrument. The survey will be done through answering a
questionnaire. The survey questionnaire is used to collect demographic
data about the member’s behavior, practices, intentions, beliefs,
attitudes, opinions, judgment, interest, perception, and like and then
such data to be analyzed, organized and interpreted. Questionnaires are
created with a limited set of response category.
Statistical Treatment

To validate the reliability to understanding of the data.

The proper statistical tools used in this study will be
Pearson R. As it is the most widely used correlation
statistic to measure the degree of the relationship
between linearly related variables.
