Goal of Placement

• A practical period during which students contribute


to the goals of placement firms and develop relevant
skill sets within a real working environment.
• Skills set development includes
– softskills (e.g. communication, team-work etc.)
– computing and technology skills.
• Types of work during placement must be relevant to
programmes of study.
Placement Period

• Compulsory under MQA Requirements.


• Commence at the end of Year 2.
• Minimum: 12 weeks continuous internship. *
• Internship will be graded as PASS/FAIL and will not be
used for calculation of CGPA.
• Students need to pass Internship in order to
graduate.
Note: if more than 12 weeks, it may result in deferment of your registration
for 3rd Year.
Duration: 12 weeks

Start date: 2nd July 2018

End date: 21st / 22nd September 2018


Internship Processes
(All Documents have been uploaded in Moodle)
Step 1.1 - Pre-registration

• Internship Placement Officer (IPO) to brief on


Internship processes.
• Students need to study Industry Placement
Handbook to understand:
– Detailed Internship processes
– Assessment and Grading criteria
• Students will be asked to provide personal contact
details:
– Private emails (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail etc.)
– Mobile Phone numbers
Step 1.2 – Selection & Application

Preparation
• Students need to prepare their Curriculum Vitae and
Cover Letter according to the templates provided.
• Career Services Department will issue APU Support
Letter to students.
– Students must sign the declaration form.

Selection
• Start searching for placement firms relevant to your
programme of study.
• Select at least three (3) companies.
• Source of internship:
– Career Websites (Jobstreet, JobsDB etc.)
• Keyword: “ICT Internship”
– List of Companies Registered with IPO (have been
uploaded in Moodle)
– List of Companies by APU Careers Centre

Application
• Students are encouraged to apply for companies
situated within West Malaysia.
• Submit your application with the following
documents:
– Cover Letter
– CV
– APU Support Letter
• Students are expected to attend the interviews as
and when necessary.
Step 1.2 – Selection & Application
Workshop for internship students
The university would like to assist students who are soon to
commence their Internship after their Level 2, by providing
workshops to prepare them for their first time exposure to
the working environment. These workshops will be
conducted by our professionals and would cover effective
written and oral communication skills, professionalism at
workplace and overall help students to have the required
confidence and the necessary soft-skills to enter the industry
and leave a mark for their future placements.

Attendance for the workshops is compulsory and will be


closely monitored by the respective academic supervisors.
Step 1.3 – Confirmation & Approval

• Once students obtained the offer, prepare the


following documents:
– Placement Record and Agreement Forms
– Letter of Offer from the Company
Step 1.4 – Assessment and Grading

• 2nd briefing will be conducted during the progression


briefing of your Year 3.
• Before Buffer Week of Year 2 Semester 2.

PA002-5-2 Industrial Experience-Part 1


A report consists of:
• Cover letter and CV 30%
• Answers to 10 Interview Questions 30%
• Log Book 40%
• Appendix
– Placement Record and Agreement Forms
– Letter of Offer from the Company

– The questions and answers must be related to the secured
placement.

– Accurate record of work conducted from the 1st Briefing
until the offer letter is issued.
– Log Book need to be done on a weekly basis.
– Log Book Cover Page and Log Book templates have been
uploaded in Moodle.
Step 1.4 – Assessment and Grading

• Submission (with CSFF) to admin office must be


done on Tuesday, Buffer week of Semester 2, Year
2.
– Only submit when you secured a placement.
» EC is a must for late submission.

• Admin office will distribute the report to the


respective University Supervisors.
Summary of 1st Briefing

• Submit declaration form to get APU Support


Letter.
• Prepare Cover Letter and CV.
• Apply for placement.
1. Complete the placement record and agreement forms.
2. Get the offer letter from the company.

• Prepare Q&A and log books.


• Attend workshops.
Step 2 – During Internship
Reporting to Work
• Students must report to work according to specified
Date and Time stated in Agreement/Approval form.
Supervision
• Company Supervisor (External)
– Monitor performance and log-book
• University Supervisor (Internal)
– Will be assigned by the School
– Communicate with students during the internship duration
– Monitor log-book (monthly basis)
Step 2 – During Internship

Company Feedback Form


• Seek for the assistance from your Company
Supervisor to complete the Company Feedback Form
and email it to your University Supervisor within the
first week of your internship.
Step 2 – During Internship

Log-Book
• Accurate record of work conducted during
internship.
– Jobs assigned, solutions, discussion etc.
• Log-book need to be presented, signed, and stamped
by Company Supervisor on a weekly or daily basis
(depends on job nature).
Step 2 – During Internship

Log-Book
• Signed and stamped Log-book must be sent through
email to University Supervisor on a monthly basis.
• Log-book Cover Page and Log-book template have
been uploaded in Moodle.
Step 2 – During Internship

Attendance
• Students need to submit complete attendance
records, endorsed by placement company (with a
stamp).
Step 2 – During Internship

Industrial Visit
• Companies in Klang Valley (Selangor & Wilayah
Persekutuan) AND 1st time taking APU intern
– Inform your University Supervisor to visit your company
once to meet your Company Supervisor and you in weeks 6
- 8 of your internship.
• Other companies
– Inform your University Supervisor to conduct a Skype
session once to meet your Company Supervisor and you in
weeks 6 - 8 of your internship.
Step 3 – End of Internship

Report Submission

A report consists of:
• Industrial Placement Report 40%
– Summary Report
– Business Report
– Technical Report
• Appendix 50%

Step 3 – End of Internship

Report Submission
• 3rd briefing will be conducted during the
orientation session of your Year 3.
• Submission to admin office must be done on
Tuesday, Week 3 of Semester 1, Year 3.
• Admin office will distribute the report to the
respective University Supervisors.
Step 3 – End of Internship

• Another 10% will be assessed by the Company


Supervisor.
– The Company Supervisor will email the completed
assessment form to the respective University Supervisor to
process further.
