Why this topic?

 To reach a more accurate

understanding of how
Romanians migrants workers
are seen abroad;
 To create an online survey:
How are Romanians seen
abroad?
I. ABOUT ROMANIA

 Territory (the 13th place in Europe);

 Political aspects (a democratic country since

the 1990s);

 Economy (the 16th place in the European

Union).
II. ROMANIANS’ EMIGRATION ABROAD AFTER DECEMBER 1989

 Three important historical periods:

 Before the 1989 Revolution (”the close-out period”);
 Between 1990 and 2006 (”the period of limited border opening”);
 After January 1, 2007 (”the period of intra-European mobility”).

 Major reasons:
 Limited financial resources;
 Education:
 Temporary immigrants;
 Definitive immigrants.

 Effects:
 At socio-demographic level (loss of Romania population);
 At economic level (loss of human resources for the country);
 At family level (negative major changes: divorce and child abandonment).
3. A survey study: The image of Romanians abroad

Positive images – heroes
Conclusion
 Romanians can be both positively and
negatively seen by the people in whose
countries Romanians choose to reside.
 It turns out that the opinions about
Romanians living abroad are in a continuous
change, but we can still assume that
Romanians begin to be seen in a more
positive way abroad.
