OSCILLATION VARIATION INDICATOR CONCLUSION
REGION
PERIOD
1. OSCILLATION PERIOD
MJO is one of the tropical disturbances which travels eastward around the tropics with
oscillation period 30-90 days. MJO gives a broad impact on rain patterns in tropical region and
arround, atmospheric circulation and surface temperature in around of tropical region and
subtropical region
2. VARIATION
MJO has a dominant role in influencing climate variability because it can influence variation of

 CLOUDS

 INTENSITY OF RAIN

 WIND  SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE

3. REGION OF MJO
This characteristic can be seen with images
produced by satellite imagery that is through
the top of cloud temperature. Convective
cloud movement from west to east along
the Pacific Ocean is characterized by
convergence in the lower layer
(troposphere) and divergence in the upper
layer (stratosphere). Monitoring of MJO can
be done with respect to variations of OLR
emitted by infrared sensors on satellites.
4. INDICATOR

 Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM),

 Hovmoller Diagram,
 Empirical Orthogonal Function,
 Wave number-frequency analysis, and
 OLR (Outgoing longwave radiation).
OLR

However, the dominant indicator

used is OLR. The OLR value is
obtained by calculating the amount
of long wave radiation received by
the weather satellite sensor. OLR is
the electromagnetic radiation
emitted from the earth into space in
the form of thermal radiation.
5. CONCLUSION
So, in conclusion MJO is one of the tropical disturbance which attack the tropics
with oscillation period 30-90 days. Which generally results in wind anomalies, sea
surface temperatures, clouds and of course the intensity of rain. MJO have a
broad impact on rainfall patterns in the tropics and beyond.
