2014
• Preparing Solution of Hidrochloric Acid by Dilution
A. Tittle

• February, 24th 2014

B. Date

• Students are expected to be able in preparing solution of

hidrochloric acid.
C. Aims • Students are expected to be able in doing dilution.
D. BASIC THEORY:
• Hydrochloric acid is a clear, colorless,
highly pungent solution of hydrogen chloride
(HCl) in water. It is a highly corrosive, strong
mineral acid with many industrial uses.
• A solution is a homogeneous mixture between
the solute and solvent.
D. BASIC THEORY:
• Component of a binary solution is solute and solvent.
a) Percent weight per weight (%W/W) specifies the number of grams of
solute in 100 grams of solution.
b ) Percent by weight per volume (%W/V), commonly used solution in very
dilute water from solids.
c ) Percent volume (%v/v) stated mL solute in 100 mL of solvent.
If the solution is more concentrated, adjusted with a solution of known
concentration unit to the desired unit. The amount of solute before and
after dilution is the same and satisfies the equation:
V1 . M1 = V2 . M2
Where : V1 = volume of solution or mass pre- diluted
V2 = volume of solution or mass after diluted
M1 = concentration of solution before dilluted
M2 = concentration of after diluted solution

H. ANALYSIS
• At first we take 20,73 mL concentrated HCl using
volumetric pippete connected with propippete. After
that poured the concentrated HCl into volumetric
flask carefully. then add aquadest upto the limit line
of volumetric flask (250mL), closed the flask and
shaked. The last is labeled the volumetric flask
contain 250 mL diluted HCl 1M.
I. CONCLUSION:
• The ammount of concentrated HCl 37% that
needed to make 250 mL HCl solution 1M is
20,73 mL.

Calculation

• Known : M HCl = 1M
V2 = 250 ml
Molecul weight of HCl 36,5
• Asked: V1 .....?
• Answer: Mass = 1,19 x 250
= 297,5 grams
Percentage = 37% x 297,5
= 110,075 grams
n=

n= = 3,015
M= = 12,06 M
N1 = 12,06 x 1 = 12,06
V1 x N1 = V2 x N2
V1 x 12,06 = 250 x 1
V1 =
V1 = 20,73 ml
Nb : V1 = Volume HCl
V2 = Diluted Volume HCl
N1 = Concentration of HCl
N2 = Diluted concentration of HCl
