 Military Engineer Services (MES) is one of the
oldest and largest government defence
agency in India.
 It is mainly employed in the engineering and
construction of multiple projects.
 MES is an Inter Service Organization directly
under the Ministry of Defence
 MES as a Group 'A' organized service has
three constituent cadres :-

 Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE)

 Indian Defence Contract Management Service
(IDCMS) or Surveyors Cadre
 Architect cadre
 GROUP-A RESIDENTIAL

 GROUP-D ASSEMBLY BUILDINGS

 GROUP-E BUSINESS BUILDINGS

 GROUP-F MERCANTILE BUILDINGS

 GROUP-G INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS

 GROUP-H STORAGE BUILDINGS

 GROUP-I HAZARDOUS BUILDINGS

For the construction of any building, certain
restrictions are laid down by Municipal bodies
and other govt. departments . Some of them
are as under :-
 Open spaces around residential building.
 Provisions for lighting and ventilation.
 Provisions for safety from explosion.
 Provisions for means of access.
 Provisions for drainage and sanitation.
 Provisions for safety of works against
hazards.
 Requirements for off-street parking spaces.
 Safety is very important part of work. Most
accidents can be prevailed by taking simple
measures or adopting proper working
procedures.
 It is important to educate everyone in the site
regarding safety .
 Wear protective equipments.
 Do not drink or take drugs while working.
 Pay attention to personal hygiene.
 Do not play in the workplace.
 Report to your Supervisor immediately if you
notice any unsafe condition.
 Following are the Some pictures depicting
types of accidents at construction site:-
CRANE ACCIDENTS
 The site where the construction work was
going on is located near Panj Peer, Rajouri.
 Advantages of this site
 Land
 Store
 Parking space
 Health unit
 Transportation facilities
 Wet canteen
 Site clearance
 Surveying and layout
 Excavation
 Concreting
 Wall construction
 Beam, column and slab
 Excavation is the preliminary activity of the
construction project. It starts from the pits
for building foundations and continues up
to handing over of project.
 Footings are the strips of concrete or filled
concrete blocks placed under foundation wall.
 Generally in high rise buildings there are
three types of footings:
 Isolated footing
 Combined footing
 Raft footing
 During concreting, following equipments are
used:-

 Concrete mixer
 Mounted concrete pump
 Concrete vibrators
 In frame structure, fixed type of beams is
constructed.
 In such type of structure, short columns are
constructed.
 Slabs are of following types:-

One-way Slab

 The slab may be considered as a one-way

slab if the length-to-breadth (L/B) ratio of
the slab is equal to or greater than two.
 Two Way Slab
 When the ratio of long side to short side of a
slab is less than two, it is called two-way
slab.
 Two-way slabs are designed to transfer their
loads to all the four support walls.
 CEMENT
 Cement is a binder, a substance used for
construction that sets, hardens, and
adheres to other materials to bind them
together.
 Quality of cement is based on grade of
cement. The grades of cement are as under
:-
◦ 33 Grades
◦ 43 Grades
◦ 53 Grades
 Construction aggregate, or simply
“aggregate", is a broad category of coarse
to medium grained particulate material
used in construction,
including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag,
recycled concrete and geo synthetic
aggregates.
 Types Of Aggregates
 Fine aggregates
 Coarse aggregates
 The strength and durability of concrete
depends also on the amount of water mixed
with it.
 It is very important to use clean, portable
water in quality concrete production.
 The material that develops a good bond
with concrete in order to increase its
strength is called reinforcement.
 Reinforcement working as a tension
member because concrete is strong in
compression and weak in tension so
reinforcement resists the tensile stresses in
the concrete members.
 Admixtures are generally used to affect
workability of concrete and to reduce water
content.
 Admixtures are also increases the target
mean strength of concrete.
 Types of admixtures:
◦ Accelerators
◦ Retarders
◦ Water reducers
◦ Air entraining agents

 The training is an important course because it
closes the gap between the theoretical study
and practical study.
 During the training we find that team work is
important in every successful project.
 The training makes us to learn how to control
and manage the site and how to behave when
the problems arose by taking a professional
decision.
 At the site, our Plans must be clear and easy
to read for those who used.

 A Successful engineer will find the economic

design & the project implemented in a less
time and has the responsibility to make sure
that everything is right on schedule and every
member is doing their work in right way.
