Objective:

•To build an IR Proximity Sensor using LM358 Dual Op-

Amp IC, IR LED’s and some basic electronic
components.

Abstract:

•IR stands for Infrared which is a light with a wavelength

which is not visible to human eyes. In a proximity
sensor an IR LED and a diode is used to find obstacles.

Working of Model:

• More amount of IR light falling on photo diode, more is current flow

through it.
• Current flows through 10k resistor causes potential difference.
• Any object brought nearer to IR led and Photo diode amount of IR
rays from IR led reflects and fall on photo diode increase, so
voltage increases at resistor called Vc.
• Compare Vc with reference voltage Vr using LM358 Op-Amp.
[Vc connected (+) of LM358 (non-inverting) ]
[Vr connected (-) of LM358 (Inverting) ]
• Non inverting potential > Inverting potential = Output is On.

Step of Execution :

1. Connect circuit as per circuit diagram.

2. Set initial value at potentiometer Vr.
3. Brought object near IR led and photo diode and observe output.
4. Now change the value of Vr using variable resistor.
5. Repeat above steps and get output at different distance.

Outcome of Project:
Here all the outcome depends upon comparison of Vc and Vr and as
we change value of Vr, at a different distance of object where we get
output.

Application:
• Proximity Sensor in Smartphone.
• Obstacle detector
• IR doorbell system
• Automatic Hand wash
• Drone protection sensor.
