HOW TO BE AN EXCELLENT TEACHER

• Successful planning, instruction and assessment are key


• Know the strengths & weaknesses and needs of your students, then accommodate them
• Be engaging – make it fun, make it relative, make it experiential (Dewey, Piaget)
• Be explicit – I do, we do, you do
• Assessment drives instruction – if you miss the mark, re-teach until you hit it
• Effective classroom management has the largest effect on student achievement (Marzano)
• Reflect, reflect, reflect!
• It may not always be your fault if a lesson didn’t work, but it’s your job to fix it
• Be a team player
• Collaborate, support and share with other colleagues
