Introduction

 Current broadcast radio transmissions are analog

(FM and AM)
• Provide good quality of services for fixed Rx
• Mobile or in vehicle receptions are badly affected by
multipath propagation
 DAB+ is suited for mobile reception and highly robust
against multipath reception
• Multiplex of different programs and data services
(travel, traffic, weather information)
Cont’d

• Efficient use of frequency spectrum

• Low transmitting power
• High quality audio
• Flexibility and choice
• Stable reception, particularly in mobile environments
Statement of Problem

 AM/FM technologies are not capable of providing multi-

program sound and data services.
 Multipath fading
 Spectrum approaching saturation

OBN:
• Fewer coverage than expectation
• Signal quality problem
• Factors affecting: terrain, tower height, power, site
selection problem
Objectives

 Analysis of the coverage of FM transmitter by field

measurement
 Identifying and recommending best site and antenna
height for new FMs
 Optimum selection of technical planning parameters
 Predicting the coverage for T-DAB+
 Frequency planning, taking into account existing
analog TV transmitter
Significance
Proposes coverage of T-DAB+ and simulates
with two different reception cases
Scope
coverage prediction of T-DAB+ in band III for
OBN
Methodology
 Literature Survey
 Data collection and field measurement
 Study on system parameters and environmental
parameters
 Identify best broadcast model for prediction
 Simulation and analyzing results
Band III

 This band is extensively used by TV transmitters

 Digital sound broadcasting will use this band
(174MHz-240MHz)
 Compatibility criteria between analogue television
and digital radio are needed for sharing this
frequency band (OBN and ETV terrestrial TV
transmitters)
 DSO
Frequency blocks
Network Type

 MFN
 SFN
 Multi-SFN
Coverage criteria:
 Area
 Transmitting power
 Antenna height
 Antenna gain and polarization
Planning Parameters

 Field strength
 Height loss correction
 Percentage of locations
 Percentage of time
 Building Penetration Loss
Reception Conditions:
• Mobile (in vehicle) reception
• Indoor reception
Propagation Models

 Longley Rice
 ITU-R 1546
