INTRODUCTION
Viral diseases are the important infectious disease which are endemic in
various countries including India.
List of viral diseases of GIT in dogs:-
4. Canine Distemper.
Transmission
Direct contact with animal or its secretions.
Pathogenesis
• Virus multiplies in cells undergoing mitosis
(Reason why pups are victimized).
• Dehydration.
Diagnosis
• Clinical Symptoms.
• Haematology:- leukopenia
• Haemagglutination
• Haemagglutination Inhibtion.
• Solid food should be given only when diarrhoea and vomition subsides.
Control
• Vaccination can be done between 6-18 weeks of age. Booster dose can be
given after 21 days, and then repeated annually.
CORONA VIRUS INFECTION
Highly contagious disease of domestic animals especially of canine of
young age group, characterised by gastroenteritis.
Etiology
• Caused by Corona virus.
• RNA virus.
• High affinity for gastrointestinal tract.
Profuse diarrhoea.
• Enteritis
• Faecal materials has yellow-orange colour with mucus and blood and is
foul smelling.
• Based on history.
• Clinical signs
• Lymphopaenia.
Canine Distemper
• Diphasic fever
• Hard pad
• Neurological & pneumonic complications.
• No specific treatment.
• Supportive treatment:-
1. Antibiotics like Tetracycline @10-20mg/kg B.wt,
chloramphenicol to prevent secondary bacterial infection.
2. Anti-diarrhoeal drugs
3. Fluid therapy.
Control
Annual revaccination.
INFECTIOUS CANINE HEPATITIS

Ingestion
Pathogenesis
Viraemia
• Per-Acute form
• Acute form
• Inapparent form
Per-Acute Form :- Death within few hours.
Acute Form :-
• Enlargement of tonsils.
5. ELISA.
TREATMENT
• No specific treatment.
Digestive Form:-
Malabsorption.
Diarrhoea.
Clinical Findings
• Anti-diarrhoeal drugs.
There is no specific vaccine available as this disease cannot
cause any serious threat to the dogs.
