What is Web 2.0? What are Examples of Web 2.0 Tools?

Web 2.0 apps are online web based mediums/tools people use to
communicate via discussion. Individuals are able to use this tool to
share experiences and to connect learning to past experiences and
prior knowledge. In addition, Web 2.0 tools allows users to be factual,
to be concise and clear, and to provide purposeful and immediate
feedback to apply knowledge and reinforce learning in academic
settings. Web 2.0 tools examples, such as WORDL, ZAMZAR,
TOONDOO, and PREZI, are effective resources to use to foster
discussions to get people to think and develop inquisitive skills about
certain topics.
2
The Web 2.0 Tool I have selected for this Assignment is called RECAP.
Recap is an online video assessment tool students can use to reflect and
respond to teacher created prompts. Recap creates a personalized learning
environment which provides the platform for academic, social, and
emotional discussions to occur in academic classrooms.

RECAP is a video Web Tool teachers can use to assess student comprehension of a specific topic. Teachers
can begin their experience by navigating through The Queue, and based on their content they teach, each
can assign a topic and create scholastic/critical thinking discussions to initiate dialogue introducing a new
concept or unit. A beginning prompt is created via Chat Responses, Dialogue generated by Text Questions,
or The Journey, a video experience to introduce students to a new topic and to have them explore them
more in depth. As students are sent an email to enter the discussion/class forum, they are directed to the
link to provide responses based on the teacher’s method of delivery; text or video prompt. Without any need
to download the video to view student responses, teachers can quickly view multiple student submissions.
Therefore, teachers can collect immediate data to assess student understanding, to provide immediate
feedback to facilitate mastery of content, and to collect formative assessment data . In addition, this web
tool provides students who are typically shy or do not speak English, a safe zone to introduce themselves to
the class and to share their experiences and highlights from an activity.

EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES FOR RECAP
RECAP is an effective online assessment tool teachers have incorporated into daily instruction since it’s inception in
2016. As I read Teacher’s testimonies across the United States, the consensus was RECAP and the use of video is an
effective medium students can use to reflect and respond to teacher generated assignments. This web tool allows
students to develop the capacity to think creatively and critically about a scenario, problem, or concept. RECAP
enables educators to create a visible thinking routine to evaluate student’s thought process and how each came to their
respected conclusions. As a social studies teacher specialist for Sterling High School, I look at STAAR and benchmark
testing data to identify academic areas students need assistance. RECAP can be used effectively and daily to assist
teachers to gauge student initial responses and interpretations about a new topic. With observation and analysis of
student work, teachers can plan effectively to not only seek content comprehension, but also to allow students to work
through a concept in stages to develop the proficiencies to think critically and creatively.

8
Sample Practices for RECAP in Academic Classrooms:
RECAP can be used for the following academic purposes:
1. Can be used across curriculum. For example, Spanish teachers can use RECAP to
evaluate and strengthen a students command for the Spanish language. Spanish
teachers can quickly test listening and verbal skills by recording a question in
Spanish then prompting the student to answer in kind.
2. Teachers in all contents, can use RECAP as a formative assessment tool, such as a
video exit ticket, a video warm-up, video self-reflection, or videos to answer Q & A
to assess student’s comprehension and mastery of a topic/concept.
3. RECAP is a technology that allows 21st century scholars to answer specific content
based questions via multiple digital mediums for assessment.

9
ADVANTAGES
1. An instructional tool which allows for differentiated learning to occur.
RECAP assists the struggling learner to convert thinking into writing.
2. Students can create a video summary how they comprehended a specific topic
to and to document their learning.
3. Teachers can use RECAP as a tool for Formative Assessment.
4. Teachers can collect immediate data and provide their students immediate
feedback to assess student mastery of content.
5. RECAP can be used Cross Curriculum. Video assessment can be used in gym
class to show mastery of how to make a layup in basketball. In Math, students
can create a video summary about the laws for order of operations and the
proper use of PEMDAS.

10
DISADVANTAGES:
1.The only disadvantage I found with
RECAP was compatibility issues. The
type of computer/laptop you use, for
example, MacBook or Chromebook, will
have an impact on full functions for
RECAP.
