LITERATURE AS AN ART FORM
Literature is a creative living expression of
man’s desire through language. As an art
form, literature is indeed a product of man’s
creative acumen, it is always man made.

Literature therefore is a living example of the


way of life, be it victorious, tragic and plain.

A typical language has been a binding
force to reflect the intelligence of different
scholars and listeners who have lived long
ago. Therefore, literature is about life and to
be appreciated, language will be used.
FORMS OF LITERATURE
ORAL OR VERBAL
1 LITERATURE
This pertains to a literature such as stories,
beliefs, ideas handed down from generation
and transferred through words of mouth.

Folklore, chanting and singing are good


examples of oral literature.
2 WRITTEN LITERATURE
Written literature are immortal treasures of
man’s creativity through writing. These are written
works in a papyrus or stone with the use of
alphabet, symbols and images.
LITERARY TECHNIQUE
LITERARY TECHNIQUE
A literary technique or literary device can
be used by authors in order to enhance the
written framework of a piece of literature, and
produce specific effects. They may indicate to
a reader that there is a familiar structure and
presentation to a work, basically to surprise the
reader.

LITERARY CRITICISM
Literary criticism implies a critique and
evaluation of a piece of literature and, in
some cases, it is used to improve a work in
progress or a classical piece, as with an on-
going theatre production. Literary criticism is
the evaluation, analysis, description, or
interpretation of literary works.

FICTION
Fiction refers to literature created from the
imagination. Mysteries, science fiction, romance,
fantasy, feel good lit, crime thrillers are all fiction genres.

Examples of classic fiction include Noli Me Tangere


by Jose Rizal, Summer Solstice by Nick Joaquin or a
graphic novel such as Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah by a
contemporary comics writer Carlo Vergara.
NON-FICTION
NON-FICTION
Non fiction refers to literature based in fact. It is the
broadest category of literature. The categories include
biography, business, cooking, health and fitness, pets,
crafts, home decorating, languages, travel, home
improvement, religion, art and music, history, self-help,
true crime, science and humor.

Literature reflects the events and the social
environment of the society be it in positive or in
negative aspects. The society as a nucleus of
man serves as a basket of real scenarios that
transpired in a certain place. A good example
is a newspaper and journals published
everyday or quarterly.

comfortable life and sincere romance were all
discussed and observed today through comics
and books that survived through the years.

would have thought that traditions such as town
fiesta, Lenten procession, games and folklores
created an impact to what society is colored and
played by its citizen.

citizen. Through knowledge of being one
with others is a method of change. One
does not only live by himself but for others.

Through literature, one is satisfied by reading


and browsing it. This creates an escapist
imagination that dreams do come true, thus a
reader is enjoying a story or a text which is
being presented on many pages. One can
laugh, feel romance, cry at the same time.
