 Hari has placed Safety and Social (Belonging) needs
over other needs here.
 Safety need is related to his proximity to the job
location
 Social (Belonging) need is related to his family, i.e. his
wife and his children
 Ram Gopal offered Hari high compensation package
and a decent growth opportunity w.r.t his job
 This addressed to Hari’s physiological needs and
esteem needs
 Ram Gopal assumed Hari will respond to these needs
and would place these needs above other needs
 Hari placed safety and Social needs over other needs
particularly over physiological needs and esteem needs
 By declining the job offer at Kanpur Hari observed that
his family goals and his proximity to the current job
location are more important than a lucrative job offer
or a foreign trip
 Had Hari been a unmarried young man and had he
been offered the same job with same conditions he
would have accepted the same
 Here his physiological and esteem needs would have
more impact on him as well as on his career
 Had I been his supervisor, I could have try to change
the job conditions and requirements, to fit him in a
supervisory position of sales activities in Kanpur with
one or two mandatory monthly visits
