CASE REPORT SESSION

ULTRASOUND: CAN
IT REPLACE MRI
TEARS
IN THE ROTATOR CUFF
?
EVALUATION OF THE
What is rotator cuff?
Rotator cuff
tears
An injury tears a
rotator cuff tendon
that’s been
weakened by age
or wear and tear.
Weakness in the arm
(and usually pain)
are the symptoms.
The aim of this study

Detect the efficiency of ultrasound being

available, inexpensive dynamic study
compared to unenhanced MRI (our golden
standard) in the diagnosis of the rotator cuff
tears.
METHODS AND PATIENTS
40 patients were referred with clinical suspicion of rotator
cuff tear.
Human ethics committee approval was obtained.
Ultrasound and MRI were done for all patients by 2
different radiologists being blind to the results of the other
examination to minimize the bias.
