ISLAM DEFINITION OF SPIRITUAL
Islam doesn’t view ‘spirituality’
separately from everyday activities. In
Islam everything is ‘spiritual’ because all
actions must be in accordance with
God’s pleasure. This view comes from
the Islamic creed and the Muslim’s
understanding of tawhid (the oneness of
God).

Spirituality is a translation of the word ruhaniyah.

Ruhaniyah language itself is derived from the word soul.
Al Qur"an informed that the human spirit is blown directly
by God after the physical form in the womb. (Aman, 2013:
22)

Spirituality and religion are often seen as two terms
that have similar meanings.
But spirituality has been considered a special
character (connotations) of a person's beliefs are
more personal, less dogmatic, more open to new ideas
and diverse influences, and more pluralistic than the
belief that translated or based on religions formal

Human, Spiritual and God

◉ The level of God consciousness is dependent upon how close

the Muslim is with His Lord.
◉ This personal relationship is established and strengthened by
following a unique programmed of activities that have been
prescribed by God Himself.
◉ This ‘spiritual’ programmed is means to change the negative
traits and habits of the Muslim. Some of these activities include
remembrance of God, prayer, giving charity, fasting, reflecting
on creation, meditation, reading and reflecting upon the
Qur’an, memorizing the Qur’an and daily supplications.
The BENEFITS
The benefits of God consciousness as derived from the Qur’an are:

◉ Guidance: because of His words “guidance ◉A way out from unhappiness, and provision
for the muttaqeen (the people of God from where one does not expect because of His
consciousness)” words, “Whoever has taqwa of Allah He will
◉Help: because of His words “Truly, Allah is make a way out for him and provide him from
with the people who have taqwa (God where he does not expect”
consciousness)” ◉Facilitation of affairs because of His words,
“Whoever has taqwa of Allah He will make ease
◉Closeness with God: because of His
for him in his affair”
words, “Allah is the close friend of the
◉Full covering over of wrong actions and
muttaqeen” magnification of rewards because of His words,
◉Love: because of His words, “Truly Allah “Whoever has taqwa of God He will cover over
loves the muttaqeen” his wrong actions and magnify a reward for him”
Fear of Allah is an important part of true faith and a
perfect prayer. We should always be concerned that we
perform our prayers sincerely as best as we can, lest
they be unacceptable to Allah.
At the same time, hope in Allah is an equally important
part of true faith and worship. Our worship should
balance the fear of Hellfire with the hope of Jannah,
and in doing so we will achieve a peace of mind
unbeknownst to most people on earth.

Who is better in religion than one who submits himself to Allah while being a doer of
good (muhsin) and follows the religion of Abraham, inclining to truth?
