1-IB introduction
IB is one of the curriculums that was made in American schools. I went to Ajman
Academy school for training and this school uses IB curriculum. The aim of this
curriculum is to develop students and teachers skills, and it benefits both of them.
1-EYFS Introduction
“The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework that provides standards
and expectations for the development of children up to five years of age.” (EYFS
Statutory Framework, n.d.) and it started in UK.
2-IB definition of key principle
In this curriculum there is key principles and they are:

IB learners profile and they are 10(inquiries, knowledgeable, thinkers,


communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk taker, balanced and
reflective)

3-IB historical context
IB was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968. The first program offered by the IB
was diploma program (DP) and it is the only IB program until 1994 when the
Middle Years Program (MYP) was developed. Then was followed by Primary Year
Program (PYP) in 1997 and they introduced in 2011.
3-EYFS historical context
1927 The first branches are formed to support work in local areas.
1934 London Headquarters is founded.
1944 The Association has 76 branches with more than 7,000 members.
1972 Change of name to the British Association for Early Childhood Education (BAECE).
1996 Introduction of our working title of Early Education, to make the core aims of the Association clearer
to a wider public.
2012 Publication of Development Matters, non-statutory guidance to support the Early Years Foundation
Stage framework in England.

In IB program the teacher observe one of the activity, and she use a checklist to
see what the children are doing.

6- Advantages and disadvantages of IB
Advantage:
1-The children explore the activities.

2-The teacher observe one of the activities.

3-Each one of the children have an ipad with their name on it.

Disadvantage:
1-Insufficient time is being used on the circle time.

2- Some of the activities are not used while the children explore them.
6- Advantages and disadvantages of EYFS
Advantages:
1- the curriculum cares about the child’s development starting from birth.

2- they have many resources for hands-on activities.

3- they have a wide variety of activity centers in each lesson.

Disadvantages:
1- there is no rotation in the activity time, so the children will not be able to do all the activities of the lesson.

2- the teacher do rarely have a lesson closing (circle time 2), and if she had she will have a very limited time,
around 3 minutes only.

3- they have a lot of aims to reach in a short time that might put pressure on the children.
7- Positive aspects of using the IB in the UAE
-IB curriculum emphasises on many aspects that will help the students in the
future. For example, it will help them to be (knowledgeable, thinkers,
communicators, open-minded, caring).

-Their language will be excellent and they will become independent learner.
