Creating Success:

Cultivating Change and

Setting Goals
Jade Wilmot, Sadie Garvey, Jaeden Cowan,
Madigan Mcghee
What is Success?

• Success: The accomplishment of an aim or a purpose.

• “Success is when you lay in bed at night totally satisfied with yourself after a long working day.” – Pritesh
Pawar
• ”Success means overcoming my failures, disappointments and obstacles”- Pranesh Raman, 2018
• “Success is reaching a goal and knowing that the goal you’ve just reached has given you enough information,
knowledge, and experience to reach the next goal above that.” – Ken Miyamoto, 2018
• “Success to me means positively influencing people” –Kimberley Jackshaw, 2018
• “ Success is obtaining a degree and succeeding in my career” Aazam Idrisi, 2018
The types of Success
• There are 2 different types of success;
• Success in what you do: This can
include but is not limited to; academic
and work place achievements, other
life goals including the common ones;
getting married and having kids etc.
• Success in who you are: More
individual specific goals. These are
based on changing aspects within
yourself. Ex. Becoming more patient,
learning to forgiving, or working on
being more kind (Cy, 2018)
“The pathway to success is to take massive, determined action”- Tony Robbins

How to achieve Success

1. Focus on the things you

are passionate about
2. Obtain an idea or a goal
3. Set a plan on how you’re
going to get there
4. Work past self doubt
5. Improve your plan to
persist through obstacles

A continuous journey
• The biggest mistake is once people reach
their goal they believe they’re done
• Success takes constant action and effort
- To maintain success Ex. Keeping marks
up to stay in a program
- To achieve the next goal Ex. Advancing
in a career
• Not continuing on with same amount of
effort can lead to a downward spiral

Goals – Tony Robbins Way

1. How can I create a

compelling future for
myself?
2. What are the two
questions I need to ask
myself in order for me to
be on track for setting
goals?
3. His process of setting
goals

What is a compelling future?

• Goals create us into becoming a better version

of ourselves then what we were in the past.
• A compelling future can only be created if we
have goals that we want to achieve
• These goals can’t be simple goals. They have to
be creative and exciting! These goals have to
make us want to be excited for what the future
holds!
Two Compelling
Questions
• Identify your goals - this is where you specify
what you want.
Setting
Goals-
SMART Goals
www.toolshero.com/time-management/smart-
goals/.
SMART Goals- Specify
Specify- Make sure that the goal is
understandable and obvious. The goal should
state why the goal and achieving it is so
important, what is wanted to be achieved and
how it will be achieved.
A few questions you can ask yourself are:

• What is it and why exactly do I want to

achieve it?
• Why is this goal important?
• What could be my limitations?
• Where, how, when?
• Who can help and/or with whom?
• What are likely different ways to achieving
the same goal?

SMART Goals- Measurable
Measurable- Make criteria that can
be measured to keep track of progress.
Staying motivated and
evaluating progress helps to stay
focused and get excited for getting
closer to achieving the goal.
Questions to ask yourself:

• How will I know when I get closer to

my goal?
• What progress have I made?
• How can I stay motivated?

and-charts-pack/simple-bar-chart-graph-c4d-3d-
model-infographics-graph-bars-chart-packt
SMART Goals- Attainable
Attainable- Make sure that it can be
achieved with the effort and time put in for
the goal that is wanted to be accomplished.
If there is no time, effort or motivation to
reach the goal, you will fail and be miserable.
It does not mean you can not do something
that seems impossible to you, so make it
happen by planning out smartly
and realistically.
Questions you may ask yourself:

• Is this goal acceptable for me?

• Do my other obligations and priorities limit
me?
• Is it realistically possible for me?

SMART Goals- Relevant
Relevant- The goal should inspire, but if it
does not then set a new goal. The goal should
connect with why you want to reach it and will
your objectives achieve that goal. When
objectives have personal importance, you
should be more realistic about what is needed
to be committed and reach your goal. If there
is conflict in the goal then you will not
accomplish it.
Questions to ask yourself:

• Why do I want to achieve this?

• Do I have what I need to accomplish this
goal?
• Am I being realistic?
• Will I commit myself to this goal?

SMART Goals- Time Based
Time Based- Time is money! Make a cautious
plan of everything that has been done. Everyone
knows that deadlines are what makes many people
switch to action, so make deadlines for the goal and
keep focused. Planning and deadlines will also
keep daily life from taking your plans for the long-
term goal. Keep the timeline realistic and flexible
for that way you can keep positive about your goal.
Questions to ask yourself:

• What can I do today and by the end of the week?

• What do I want done in a day/week/month/year?
• When?

CULTIVATING
Change
Cultivating Change
What does it mean to cultivate change?
This means to take the necessary steps to
become the person you want to be. This can
be done by setting goals, good habits, and
being positive.
3 C’s of change:
• Choices
• Chances
• Changes
Creating/cultivating change means to make a
choice in your life that takes a chance to
create change.

Benefits of Creating
Change
Why Should  New Beginnings: Embracing change can open
new doors.
We Embrace  Personal Growth: Through every change you go
through you learn, grow, and discover new
Change? things about yourself.
 Improvements: Improve can’t happen while
continuing to do the same things over and over
again. Becoming successful involves doing things
differently and improving on our weakest traits.
Reasons Why People Resist Change
4 Reasons why people resist change:
1. Uncertainty: People often prefer to stay where they are
instead of provoke change because of the fear that the risks
of moving forward out weight the risks of staying still.
Ex. Changing Careers
2. Misunderstanding: Not knowing the need for change. If
people don’t understand why things need to change, they
tend to lean towards the things they believe are working
now.
Ex. Change in a workplace environment
3. Past Resentments: When bad things happen in the past,
people tend to not want to repeat it.
4. Lack of Support: people are more likely to cultivate a change
in their life when they know they have people to support
them. No one wants to go through anything alone.

Types of Change
Positive:
 A positive life change involves setting goals. By doing
this you identify and understand what you want to
change.
 Taking small steps: Often when we look at the big
picture it becomes overwhelming, so instead break it
down into small steps to make it more achievable.
 A positive change can lead to a successful life.
Negative:
 This involves a negative mind set. Reflecting on past
mistakes will not make the future better.
 Becoming overwhelmed with what you have to
achieve makes it difficult to want to achieve it.
 Doing what is “easy” instead of doing what’s better
for you.
