“Come, Thou Long-

Expected Jesus”
UMH No. 196

[Please Stand]
Come, Thou Long-Expected 196
Jesus
WORDS: Charles Wesley, 1744

1. Come, thou long-

expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears
and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength
and consolation,
hope of all
the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.
2. Born thy people
to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign
in us forever,
now thy gracious
kingdom bring.
By thine own
eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all
sufficient merit,
raise us to
thy glorious throne.

Realms of Glory”
UMH No. 220
[Please Stand]
Angels from the 220
Realms of Glory
WORDS: James Montgomery, 1816 (Lk. 2:8-20; Mt. 2:1-12; Mal. 3:1)

1. Angels from the

realms of glory,
wing your flight
o’er all the earth;
ye who sang
creation’s story
now proclaim
Messiah’s birth:
Refrain
Come and worship,
come and worship,
worship Christ,
the newborn King.
2. Shepherds, in the
field abiding,
watching o’er your
flocks by night,
God with us
is now residing,
yonder shines
the infant light:
Refrain
Come and worship,
come and worship,
worship Christ,
the newborn King.
3. Sages, leave
your contemplations,
brighter visions
beam afar;
seek the great
Desire of nations;
ye have seen
his natal star:
Refrain
Come and worship,
come and worship,
worship Christ,
the newborn King.
4. Saints, before the
altar bending,
watching long
in hope and fear;
suddenly the
Lord, descending,
in his temple
shall appear:
The Apostles’ Creed

No. 881

[Please Stand]
I believe in God the Father
Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth; And in Jesus Christ his only
Son our Lord: who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under
Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead,
and buried; the third day He rose
from the dead;
He ascended into heaven, and
sitteth at the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence He
shall come to judge the quick and
the dead. I believe in the Holy
Spirit, the holy catholic church, the
communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection
of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning,
Is now, and ever shall be,
World without end,
Amen.
Amen.
Contemplation,
Contrition,
And Confession
Pastoral Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who have
trespassed against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
Forever.
Amen.
Reading of the
Old Testament

Malachi 3:1-4
Malachi 3:1-4
1 See, I am sending my messenger to

prepare the way before me, and the

Lord whom you seek will suddenly
come to his temple. The messenger
of the covenant in whom you
delight—indeed, he is coming, says
the LORD of hosts. 2 But who can
endure the day of his coming, and
who can stand when he appears?
For he is like a refiner’s fire and like
fullers’ soap; 3 he will sit as a refiner
and purifier of silver, and he will
purify the descendants of Levi and
refine them like gold and silver, until
they present offerings to the LORDin
righteousness. 4 Then the offering of
Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing
to the LORD as in the days of old and
as in former years.

Philippians 1:3-11
Philippians 1:3-11
3 I thank my God every time I

remember you, 4 constantly praying

with joy in every one of my prayers
5
for all of you, because of your
sharing in the gospel from the first
day until now. 6 I am confident of
this, that the one who began a good
work among you will bring it to
completion by the day of Jesus
Christ.7 It is right for me to think
this way about all of you, because
you hold me in your heart, for all of
you share in God’s gracewith me,
both in my imprisonment and in the
defense and confirmation of the
gospel. 8 For God is my witness, how
I long for all of you with the
compassion of Christ Jesus. 9 And
this is my prayer, that your love may
overflow more and more with
knowledge and full insight 10 to help
you to determine what is best, so
that in the day of Christ you may be
11
pure and blameless, having
produced the harvest of
righteousness that comes through
Jesus Christ for the glory and praise
of God.
Reading of the
Gospel

Luke 3:1-6
Luke 3:1-6
1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of

Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius

Pilate was governor of Judea, and
Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his
brother Philip ruler of the region of
Ituraea and Trachonitis, and
Lysanias ruler of Abilene, 2 during
the high priesthood of Annas and
Caiaphas, the word of God came to
John son of Zechariah in the
wilderness. 3 He went into all the
region around the Jordan,
proclaiming a baptism of repentance
4
for the forgiveness of sins, as it is
written in the book of the words of
the prophet Isaiah,
“The voice of one crying out in the
wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.
5 Every valley shall be filled,

and every mountain and hill shall

be made low,
and the crooked shall be made
straight,
and the rough ways made smooth;
6 and all flesh shall see the salvation

of God.’”

UMH No. 382

Have Thine Own 382
Way, Lord
WORDS: Adelaide A. Pollard, 1902 (Jer. 18:6)

1. Have thine own way, Lord!

Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter;
I am the clay.
Mold me and make me
after thy will,
while I am waiting
yielded and still.
2. Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Search me and try me,
Savior today!
Wash me just now, Lord,
wash me just now,
as in thy presence
humbly I bow.
3. Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Wounded and weary,
help me I pray!
Power, all power,
surely is thine!
Touch me and heal me,
Savior divine!
4. Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Hold o’er my being
absolute sway.
Fill with thy Spirit
till all shall see
Christ only, always,
living in me!

Let us continue to worship God
