B1G Academics. B1G Athletics.

Rutgers became a member of the B1G conference in 2014. Not only does this conference pin
Rutgers against some of the best schools in the country athletically, but it also recognizes Rutgers
as a big time research university.

The schools in the B1G are Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota,
Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin
History of Rutgers

● Originally named Queens College


● Founded in 1766
● 1825 name changed to Rutgers College
● Home of the first collegiate football game in 1869. RU beat
Princeton 6-4!
● Access for women arrived in 1918, when the New Jersey College
for Women (now Douglass Residential College) was founded
