WHY A TOOLKIT
 The consultations with workers and supervisors
clearly brought out the existence of major gaps in
information, in recognizing the workers expectations
and in how the frontline management needs to
change its behavior to make the workplace more
conducive, pleasant and enabling for the workers.
 The workers need to understand their rights and
responsibilities, overcome language barriers, cultural
differences.
 See the need for new support systems in Malaysia.
OUTCOME OF TOOLKIT
To bridge existing gaps between Management and
workers from beginning of employment.
Management needs to show its leadership in
providing an orientation program that has a rights
based approach and which is worker centred.
The orientation program has to go beyond the
familiarization of work skills, of the workplace
environment, work ethics and rules of the company.
The worker must feel and realize that the company
recognizes her rights, her dignity and will respect
them.
Supervisors as frontline management. They must be
the bridge to create the enabling environment.
