Regional Planning

Major Objective
 To control and reconfigure the growth of major urban
areas effectively

 Balancing population and industry
 Rationalising of transport services and routes
 Securing proper distribution of service facilities
 Provides for alterable living standards in existing cities
 Creating counter magnets for employment
 Contributing to better physical environment
Master Plan
 A document that describes, in narrative and with maps, an overall
development concept including both present property uses as
well as future land development plans.

 A comprehensive plan to allow a city to grow in an orderly and


sound manner, both economically and ecologically.

Structure Plan
 A statutory written statement and a key diagram which contains
broad land-use planning policies and proposals that cover a wide
area and map out future development for a period of at least 10
years.

 A plan that sets out strategic planning policies for development and
other land uses in respect of:
housing; employment; conservation; minerals; waste;
transportation; shopping; tourism; leisure; and recreation
Zonal Development Plan
 It is a statutory document under the provision of Master Plan
 It provides the link between Master Plan and layout plans.

come into focus at the neighbourhood level.

attention to the social qualities, and provision
of facilities, services and amenities, required
for the daily life of the inhabitants.
