CLASSROOM DYNAMICS
By: Jill Hadfield
TEACHING ENGLISH TO CHILDREN IN ASIA
By: David Paul
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE THE
CHILDREN IN YOUR CLASSES TO
REMEMBER YOU?
WHAT
Classroom dynamics involves the
interaction between students and
teachers in a classroom
community.
THE PURPOSE
The Purpose of studying classroom
dynamics is to learn how to set up a
positive classroom atmosphere
where students feel comfortable
learning and communicating with
other students and teacher.
Good classroom dynamics
consist in the engagement
of every body in the
classroom.
When I speak English I …
feel shy feel confident
feel embarrassed feel challenged
feel happy feel tongue-tied
feel frightened feel anxious
feel like a different person
Adapted from ‘Classroom Dynamics’, (OUP)group
Jill Hadfield, 1992, p37
THE ACTIVITIES
Songs
Games
Energizer
Projects
Jokes
Riddles
Teamwork
WHY SONGS ?
Songs promote listening exercises n
practices
Nice way to introduce a topic, grammar
and structures
They promote the practice of
pronunciation
Introduce vocabularies
WHY GAMES?
Provide a nonthreatening environment
for coping with new language learning.
Effective Learning. A child who
encounters a new English words,
expression, or pattern while she is
immersed in a game, is far more
motivated to learn it and much more
likely to internalize it than those who do
not.
When playing, singing and
learning are integrated into a
total learning experience, the
combination is very powerful.

Asia,2003)
