Code of Ethics for Teaching
Code of Ethics for teaching profession because;
• Teacher plays an important role in students academic basis.
• Teacher is a role model therefor, following the code of ethics is highly
important.
• Through his ethical behavior it is ensured that the students will receive
fair and honest education.
• Code of ethics defines the role of teacher and guide teachers behavior.

Working with Students
In teaching profession teachers spent most of the time interacting with
students. Therefore, following the code of ethics will ensure the healthy,
productive and fair environment.
• The teachers must not give advantage to students on basis of race,
language or color.
• Must avoid taking advantage of the students.
• Contact with students outside the classroom or school building must be
minimum.

Students Safety
Professional code of ethics also addresses the teacher’s responsibility to
keep their students safe.
• Teacher must abide all school and classroom safety procedure to keep
the students safe.
• It is teacher’s responsibility to report any kind of rules violation by
students.
• If a teacher suspect the case of abuse, it is his responsibility to report it
to the proper authorities.

Professional Practice
Teachers must maintain ethical behavior in professional practice by;
• Accurately representing and maintaining certifications, licenses and other
qualifications.
• In addition to qualifications, teachers must practice ethical behavior when it comes
to reporting grades and handling assessments.
• A teacher must act with honesty, integrity and fairness during assessment.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with parents and guardians.
• Be sensitive to the need for confidentiality where appropriate.

Working with Colleagues
In a school, teachers must collaborate with administrators, fellow teachers and other
employees in order to provide a safe and positive learning experience for students.

• A teacher must follow the direction of administrators in order to set a positive


example for students.

• When disagreements arise between teachers, they must handle the


disagreements in private and refrain from talking negatively about colleagues in
front of students.

Working with Colleagues
• Teachers must engage in appropriate relationships with colleagues, keeping
personal feelings and adult behaviors out of the school.
• Be prepared to help junior colleagues and those in training and induction in all
possible ways.
• Respect the authority of senior professional colleagues while retaining the
right to express professional opinion and dissent.
• Refrain from making public statements which bring the profession into
disrepute;

Interaction with Stakeholders
Teachers have a responsibility to interact positively with parents and other
stakeholders in a child's education.
• Contact with parents must be kept professional, free from arguments and
physical contact.
• If a teacher has an issue with a parent, another teacher or administrator must
be present during all meetings.
• Teachers also must avoid being unduly influenced by parents and other
stakeholders when it comes to students' grades or other school-related
matters.

Privacy
• Adherence to confidentiality and information standards is crucial in our
work.

• Everyone has a right to privacy. Personal information must be managed in


ways that protect the integrity and dignity of children, pupils, parents and
colleagues.

• Electronic information dissemination requires a special critical awareness.

Principle of Professional Conduct
Obligation to Students:
• To treat the students with respect, interact with transparency, and communicate with
respectful manner.
• A teacher must not accept gifts from students and avoid physical contact with students
unless it benefits the student.
• Avoiding multiple relationships with students which risk of harm to student learning or well-
being or decrease educator effectiveness.
• Seeking to understand students’ educational, academic, personal and social needs as well
as students’ values, beliefs, and cultural background.
• Respecting the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual students.

Principle of Professional Conduct
Obligation to Public:
• Communicating with parents/guardians in a timely and respectful manner that
represents the students’ best interests.
• Considering the implication of accepting gifts from or giving gifts to
parents/guardians.
• Maintaining appropriate confidentiality with respect to student information
disclosed by or to parents/guardians unless required by law.
• Respecting colleagues as fellow professionals and maintaining civility when
differences arise.
• Resolving conflicts, whenever possible, privately and respectfully and in
accordance with district policy.

Principle of Professional Conduct
Obligation to Profession:
• Refraining from professional or personal activity that may lead to reducing
one’s effectiveness within the school community.
• Avoiding the use of one’s position for personal gain and avoiding the
appearance of impropriety.
• Taking responsibility and credit only for work actually performed or produced,
and acknowledging the work and contributions made by others.
• Confronting and taking reasonable steps to resolve conflicts between the Code
and the implicit or explicit demands of a person or organization.

Principle of Professional Conduct
• Holding oneself responsible for ethical conduct.
• Monitoring and maintaining sound mental, physical, and emotional health
necessary to perform duties and services of any professional assignment; and
taking appropriate measures when personal or health-related issues may
interfere with work-related duties.
• Cooperating fully during ethics investigations and proceedings.
• Neither discriminating nor retaliating against a person on the basis of having
made an ethical complaint.
