 Canada is a country located


in the northern part of North
America.

 By total area (including its


waters), Canada is the
second-largest country in the
world, after Russia.

 It has a vast and unexplored


area.
Geographic position
Canada is located in
the Northern and
Western
Hemispheres of the
globe.

It comprises a
continental space and
numerous islands
located in the Arctic
Ocean.

Canada is surrounded on Arctic
three sides by 3 of the Earth’s Ocean
major oceans: Arctic Ocean,
Pacific Ocean and Atlantic
Ocean.

Canada is bordered in the CANADA EAST:


South by the United States. WEST:
They share a 3,000 mile long Atlantic
Pacific
border. It is the longest Ocean
unguarded border in the Ocean
world.

Population
 Around 33.4 million people live in Canada, and the
population is growing by 0.9 percent annually.

 Canada’s population is much smaller than both


Mexico’s and the United States’

• Mexico’s population is 3 times Canada’s


population
• The United States population is 9 times
Canada’s population

 The reason that Canada’s population is so


much smaller, (while Canada is very large in
size), is that much of Canada’s land lies in a
part of the Northern hemisphere where the
climate is harsh and living conditions are
Difficult.

 The urban population is 80.4%

 Canada is made up of two communities: a


France language one and another one of the
English language in the rest of the country

 Most of the population is in the south, in the


area of Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence River.

 The main cities are: Toronto, Montreal,


Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary, Quebec,
Edmonton, Hamilton and Ottawa (the capital Ottawa
of the country).

Hydrography

 Canada has a rich network of rivers and lakes


that accumulate sixth of the freshwater reserves
on Earth.

 The largest rivers: Mackenzie, St. Lawrence,


Columbia, Yukon.

 Lakes: Superior, Huron, Bear, Slave, Athabasca,


Winnipeg.
The Great Lakes

 The Great Lakes are located in southern Canada,


four of which form part of the border between
Canada and the U.S.A.

 Only Lake Michigan is completely controlled by


the U.S.A.

 The four Great Lakes also provide fresh water,


fish and hydroelectricity for the people of
Canada.
Saint Lawrence River
 The St. Lawrence River is located in Eastern Canada,
stretching from Lake Ontario to the Atlantic Ocean.

 The St. Lawrence River played an important role in


Canada’s history: Allowed European explorers to
easily travel farther into North America

 Today, the St. Lawrence still plays an important role


in Canada: Source of fresh water, fish and it is still
a valuable trade/travel route
Natural Resources of Canada
Canada is rich in natural resources
Some of their most important of these resources
(found primarily in the Canadian Shield), are iron ore,
nickel, zinc, copper, gold, lead, diamonds, and silver
Tourist spots
 Approximately 17 million tourists come to visit annually,
most of them in the U.S.A.

 The main tourist attractions are the following:


• Province of Quebec
• Montreal
• Toronto (the CN Tower, 533m - the tallest building in the
world)
• Ottawa (the Aviation Museum and the Museum of
Civilizations)
• Niagara Falls, on the U.S.A. border.
• The Rocky Mountains and the Coastal Mountains, with
numerous weather stations and winter sports.
• Natural and National Parks (Wood Buffalo, Banff - the
oldest)
