deeper than 14 yds, and the underneath zones which are FLAT, CURL, and HOOK.

0
COVERAGE DESCRIPTION
Pure Man-to-Man with no safety deep in the middle. The corners and safeties usually at 4-
5 yds deep, aligned inside. Will also play press technique. Playing man to man across the
board allows defenses to put additional pressure on the QB bringing 6 to 7 man pressures.

1
COVERAGE DESCRIPTION
Man-to-Man with a deep safety. The corners will play 4-5 yds aligned inside or will play
press technique. Similar to Cover 0. The thinking is to play man-to-man in order for the
defense to send pressure and disrupt the QB but with cover 1 the defense has a safety
valve playing centerfield.

COVERAGE DESCRIPTION
2 deep, 5 underneath zone. The corners usually play hard. The plan is to cut down
underneath throwing lanes. The goal of the corners is to funnel routes inside. corners will
try to disrupt releases and timing of routes. Also, corners are used to provide run support.

2 Man
COVERAGE DESCRIPTION
Safeties deep playing deep ½’s. Man-to-Man coverage underneath with the defenders using
trail technique knowing they have help over top. Corners play inside leverage with safeties
playing at cover 2 depth. Cover 2 Man many times used in long yardage situations. This
allows defenders to play aggressive man-to-man coverage with the two deep safeties
playing over top.

This is a variation of regular cover 2. There is still two half defenders but they are played

3
COVERAGE DESCRIPTION
3 Deep each having 1/3 of the deep field, 4 underneath zone. Meant to take away the
deep threat by keeping receivers in front of them and make tackle for short gain. Stop
