The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think

critically. Intelligence plus character; that is the goal of true education. (USH,
2014)

Martin Luther King, Jr

WHICH THEORY ALIGN MOST WITH YOUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY?

Robert Gagne, determined learning by using Cognitive-Behaviorist Theory. This theory develops intellectual skill by “translating principles from

behaviorist and information-processing theories into practical instruction strategies.” These strategies are applied during instruction time. Gagne

established nine events of instruction and he believed; once applied and demonstrated during instruction time should evolve into “intellectual

skills.” (Gagne 1992)

Gagne aligns with my teaching because I strongly agree which providing a comfortable learning environment, while delivering practical

instruction.
NINE EVENTS OF INSTRUCTION
FIVE DOMAINS OF LEARNING OUTCOME
1. INTELLECTUAL SKILL
2. COGNITIVE STRATEGIES
3. VERBAL INFORMATION
4. MOTOR SKILLS

Cognitive strategy

5. ATTITUDES

WHICH THEORY ALIGN LEAST?

I align least with the Scaffolding Theories by Lev Vygotsky. The reason I align least with this theory is because scaffolding is a technic that is usually applied during a

one on one with students that have experienced gaps in their learning. While choosing a theory, I’m considering the entire class. Scaffolding is not a strategy conducive

during instructional time. “Going over prerequisite and filling gaps or two different requirements for teaching.” (Roblyer and Hughes, 2019) However, I will consider

scaffolding during small groups. With this in mind, scaffolding is a strategy helpful for building the student’s understanding to their level of learning.
STRATEGIES I WOULD IMPLEMENT
Gain Attention:

During instruction, I will gain their attention by explaining why the lesson is relevant to them! How the topic relates to them day to day or

maybe in certain events? Also, how it can be used and why it is necessary to apply the subject matter.

INFORMING THE LEARNER OF THE OBJECTIVE:

Everyday on the board, I will have stated the objective for that day.

STIMULATING RECALL OF PREREQUISITE LEARNING:

In stimulating recall, I would ask the student if they remember certain things about the lesson. Then we will build on that, up to the lesson BY using their prior

thoughts.
• PRESENT INFORMATION:

I will present the information; while including the students response from their prior knowledge. I will tie their response to the direct lesson.

• PROVIDING GUIDANCE:

I will provide guidance by walking the students through the lesson using an example.

• ELICIT PERFORMANCE:

I will elicit performance by the way of allowing students to demonstrate what they know and what they understand about lesson.
•PROVIDE FEEDBACK:
I will provide feedback through encouragement, redirection, suggestions, and reaffirming the students.

•ASSESS PERFORMANCE:
I will assess the students performance through quizzing or testing on a particular lesson.

I will observe while the students are working.

•ENHANCE RETENTION AND TRANSFER

•I will have the student summarize or give an example of what they learned from the subject.
