GUADALAJARA DE BUGA
• Buga, officially Guadalajara de Buga, is a Colombian municipality in the center of
the department of Valle del Cauca. It is famous for the Basilica of the Lord of
Miracles, to which pilgrims from all over the world come. Its full name is
Guadalajara de Buga, because it is crossed by the Guadalajara River, also called Río
de las Piedras, which is born in the middle part of the Central Mountain Range. It is
located in the flat part of the Valle del Cauca. It is one of the cities with more history
not only in the department but in the country, its history runs parallel to the history of
the Sovereign State of Cauca and Valle del Cauca, it has a great colonial and modern
architecture. The growing city is considered a development pole for the department
of Valle del Cauca.
Typical dances
Guadalajara de Buga, because it is part of the Cauca Valley, is very popular
with salsa, one of the most typical dances that has passed down from generation
to generation. This musical style from the Spanish Caribbean, came years ago
to Colombia, especially to the city of Cali, where the Caleña sauce took root
and evolved. Its peculiarity is that today it has become a new and different style
of composing and dancing salsa. Its importance and popularity is such that it
has even led this Colombian city to become the "world capital of salsa" now
counting with more than 100 professional dance categories
On the other hand we also find that in Guadalajara de Buga
folk dance predominates which the typical and traditional
dances of a culture are. Folk dance is usually performed by
tradition (it is not an innovative art) and can be danced by any
man and woman (it is not exclusive to professional dancers,
although there may be professional folk dance groups).
