Humanities and Social Science stands for the
acronym HUMSS. HUMSS is not just a strand.
It’s a home where you can experience the true
essence of life.
It help us students to boost not only our
confidence and interpersonal communication but
also to discipline ourselves and build a strong
relationship with others.

Century
Those topics and terms mentioned above were just a preview, so
don’t think its boring and easy because its not. We Humanistas take
struggle to survive our chosen strand and prove to everyone that we
are the hope of our nation. This strand will help us students to mold
ourselves to become future leaders that has the ability to contribute
to the world by bringing justice, by making our country progressive
and globally competitive, and creating friendships between
countries.
There’s no turning back, never give up because what we think
determines what happens to us, so if we want to change our lives,
we need to stretch our minds and pray.

Social Science is a systematic
study of various social and
cultural aspects of human
society.
Philippine Politics and Governance
This focusses on the issues of Philippine Politics,
for those students that is aspiring to become
leaders like politicians, lawyers, etc. For us to
open our eyes and ears to the happenings in our
country, to understand and not to critized easily.
It is also further know the history of the
constitution, and the laws here in the Philippines.
The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines
PREAMBLE
We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid
of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane
society, and establish a Government that shall
embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the
common good, conserve and develop our patrimony,
and secure to ourselves and our posterity, the
blessings of independence and democracy under the
rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom,
love, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate
this Constitution.
The 3 branches of Government
 Legislative Department – the power is vested in the House of
Congress (the Senate and the House of Representatives)
- make out laws

 Executive Department – the power is vested in the President of


the Philippines
- carries out laws

 Judicial Department – the power is vested in the Supreme


Courts
- evaluates laws
History is from the Greek word historia
meaning inquiring knowledge acquired by
investigation.

 It provides a sense of context for our lives and


our existence. Helping to understand the way
things are and how we might approach the
future by looking at the past and learning from
all the mistakes and successes of humanity
since the beginning of time.
Constitution is the body of rules
and principles in accordance with
which the power of sovereignty
are regularly exercised.
Disciplines and Ideas in Social Sciences
talks about the human society, human evolution, human experience
and more. This is for those students that will be future teachers,
anthropologists, sociologist, researchers, psychiatrist, etc.

 Anthropology is the study of humans, the social science that


seeks to understand human origins and adaptation, the diversity
of cultures and worldviews.
 History is the study and analyses of human activities in the past
and the changes in that they had undergone.
 Sociology is the systematic study of the development,
structure, interaction, and collective behavior of
organized group of human beings.
 Demography is the study of statistics such as births,
deaths, income or the incidence of disease, which
illustrate the changing structure of human populations.
 Linguistics is the scientific study of language and its
structures
• Syntax(the structure of sentences)
• Morphology(the structure of words)
• Phonology(the pattering sounds)
 Psychology is the science of behavior and, including
conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as
feelings and thought. It is important because it deals
with the study of the mental processes and behavior, at
the same time we can apply it in our daily lives.
 Political Science is above all the study of power on
how it is created, exercised, justified, and challenged.
In other words the system of government.
Culture is a complex whole
which encompasses beliefs,
practices, values, attitudes, law,
artifacts, knowledge and
everything.
Values are important beliefs
about what is good or bad and
desirable or undesirable in a
cultures.
