What is a compressor?
The oldest and best known is the lobe blower, in which two or three rotors in
the form of · 8 · are coupled together and driven with synchronization
gears mounted on each axis. Lobe blowers range from very small, for
compressors produced in series, from about 2ft3 / min., To the largest, for
about 20000 PCMS. They are mainly used as low pressure blowers, which
compress air or gases from atmospheric pressure up to 5 to 7 psig and,
some up to 25 psig, in special types. They are also widely used as vacuum
pumps, which are actually compressors that operate at suction pressures
below atmospheric and with discharge pressures equal to atmospheric or a
little higher.
