2. Biodiesel Production Using Waste Vegetable Oil

3. Carbonized Rice Hull As Soil Conditioner For

Bell Pepper Production

4. Bed Forming Attachment For Mini Tiller

5. Application Of In-ground Passive Cooling

In Cascading Nutrient Film Technique System
BRAIN STORM IDEAS
TITLE: TITLE: Biodiesel production using
waste cooking oil.

PROBLEM: Oil price hike and increasing

waste of cooking oil

SOLUTION: With the used of waste

cooking oil we can produced biodiesel as
an alternative fuel in diesel engines. And
also we can recycle the waste cooking oil.
BRAIN STORM IDEAS

TITLE: Carbonized rice hull as soil conditioner for bell

pepper production

PROBLEM: Decrease in the amount of soil macro

aggregates resulting to soil acidification due to the use of
inorganic fertilizer

SOLUTION: With the use of carbonized rice hull as soil

conditioner we can preserve or lessen the loss of nutrients
present in the soil .
BRAIN STORM IDEAS
TITLE: Bed forming attachment for
mini tiller

PROBLEM: Time consuming of

manual bed forming

SOLUTION: Designing and

fabricating such attachment the
used of Bed former as an
attachment it will be an advantage
to the farers as their land
preparations ca be done faster
BRAIN STORM IDEAS
TITLE: the application of in-
ground passive cooling system to
the nutrient solutions
temperature in Cascading NFT
system.
PROBLEM: higher temperature in
greenhouse and nutrient
solution in hydroponics results to
depletion of oxygen and damage
of roots and higher cost of
mechanical cooler and water
chiller
SOLUTION: alternative way of
cooling system (in-ground
cooling system)
BRAIN STORM IDEAS
TITLE: cuniculture or the
science of farming rabbits to
utilize for meat, fur, pellet

PROBLEM: Environmental,
health and economical

SOLUTION: sustainable
agriculture through rabbit
farming
BEST IDEA
PROBLEM

ENVIRONMENTAL
• Degrading environment and number one cause of ozone depletion and greenhouse effect

• Cattles consumed 2500 gallons of water to produce 1 lb of meat, recently 70 billion

population of cattle worldwide.

• Number one consumer of grains, even more to humans

• Livestock is the largest contributor of greenhouse gas

• Large Carbon and Water Footprint

• Produce fouling smell

Health

• Available livestock is very susceptible to diseases that are also

dangerous to human
• Avian flu is from chicken and dangerous to health
• African Swine Fever is killing pigs
• Commercially available chicken is injected with different
hormones and antibiotics
Problem Selected:

Environmental

• Earth is slowly degrading due to large environmental impact

caused by livestock raising
• Extreme drought and flooding if the carbon emission remains
constant for the next 15 years
• As population grows, food supply goes along
• Decreased presence of potable water
Conceptualized Idea to Address the Problem

“We need a livestock animal that can produce more food in less
feeds that has low water and carbon blueprint to minimize
environmental impact. In business, it is like maximizing the
revenue while minimizing the expenses.”

- Natividad et al. (2019)

Concrete Solution:

The Technology of Cuniculture

Cuniculture - is the agricultural practice of breeding and

raising domestic rabbits as livestock for their meat, fur, or wool. It is
a sustainable food production.
How did Cuniculture address the problem?

- Considered as green meat and meat of the future because it is not a

competition of humans with grains
- Fast growth rate and reproduction, thus lowering the amount of feed
being consumed, 2 does and a buck can produce up to 200lb of meat
a year
- Only animal that has cold manure, low carbon blueprint but highest in
nitrogen among other livestock which makes it a good fertilizer
- All parts can be utilized, its meat, fur, wool, urine and manure.
- Quiet and clean animals, make it possible to raise in urban areas
- No religious taboos, which makes it more useful human
The technology includes feeding, breeding and housing system.

Nationwide Problems Needed to be Solved:

A. Feeding
- Unavailability of feeds that will cater the nutritional requirements of the
animal to maximize growth
- Lack of technology in farming crops used as feed ingredients for rabbits
- Due to higher temperature in the Philippines, rabbits grow slower
Solution:
- Educating local raisers and farmers
- Raise awareness to people
- Conducting studies about feeding of rabbits
B. Breeding
- Unavailability of breed of rabbits used for meat production
- Imported rabbits from western and European countries
have difficult time adjusting to local climate
- Kindling does sometimes pass out due to high local
temperature
- Lack of proper recording of animals
Solution:
- Creating or importing a breed that is suitable in Philippine
Condition
- Designing software and education on proper recording
- Good and proper ventilation and cooling of housing
C. Housing
- No standards set for housing rabbits in Philippine
conditions
- Lack of knowledge regarding structures made for
commercial rabbit meat production

Solution:
- Conduct studies regarding proper housing of rabbit
- Attend trainings from different places that have well-
established rabbit industry
