Research Proposal
 According to the cases being admitted in Laoag City General Hospital (LCGH),
especially in Pediatric Ward, acute gastroenteritis (AGE) is the most common
illness being exhibited by patients. Some patients that are diagnosed with
AGE accompanied with urinary tract infection (UTI). Along with these cases,
some were admitted with a diagnosis of dengue fever and other bacterial
infections.
 In analyzing the recurrence of the diagnosis, most cases of AGE are caused
by ingesting contaminated food or water, or in other words, unsanitary
processing of food and water. Moreover, improper handwashing contributes
to the spreading of infection. The researcher observed that this also lacks
attention and proper orientation among patients.
1. Are the diagnosed patients aware of the common causes of acute
gastroenteritis?
2. Is the brochure effective and sufficiently useful in improving their health
status?
3. How many diagnosed patients who complied with the sanitation procedures
recommend it to other users?
 The proposed intervention is a brochure. The contents of the brochure are the
proper procedures of handwashing, how to properly prepare food and how to
prevent the spread of infection.
 The researcher will create the brochure, along with a questionnaire that
consists of ten (10) questions. The questionnaire, along with the intervention
material, will be distributed to patients who was diagnosed with AGE. Then
collection of data will occur after a week.
 Questionnaire only. If the researcher finds the data inconsistent or lacks of
factual information, he may consider further interview to the respondent.
 Patients who are currently diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. The number
of respondents will be determined through case reading.
 This is significant to the patients who are diagnosed with AGE to prevent
recurrent infection and give them knowledge on how to prevent the disease.
 Moreover, this is also helpful to others since it will give awareness to them.
