 Renewable sources of energy. 2
 Non renewable sources of energy.
 Types of renewable sources.
 Advantages and disadvantages of Renewable energy sources.
Renewable and non renewable (Conventional) energy sources
Non-Renewable Energy Sources (Conventional) 3
 Those sources which can be used only once

 These include

 Oil

 Wood

 Coal

 Gas etc.

 These are naturally occurring sources and are limited.

 Non-Renewable sources makes up 85 % of world’s energy

usage.
Renewable Energy sources (Green)
4
 Those resources which are naturally replenished.

 These include

 Hydral

 Solar

 Wind

 Tidal

 Biomass

 These sources are limitless and freely available in nature.

 These sources makes up 15% of worlds Energy usage.

Advantages and Disadvantages Of Energy Sources
5
 Non Renewables sources are cheap while Renewable sources
are expensive.

 Non Renewable sources are limited while Renewable sources

are limitless.

 Non Renewable sources are harmful to our environment

while Renewables sources are Environmental friendly.
Why prefer Renewable Energy Source ?
6
 Due to the following Reasons

 Non Renewable sources limited if we continue to

consume at present rate it will Exhaust in coming next 50
to 100 years.

 Non Renewable sources are environmental Unfriendly and

is a major contribution to Global warming and Acid rain.
Renewable Energy Sources 7
8

 Flowing water is used to run a turbine which produces electricity.

Advantages

 No Green house gases are made during production of electricity.

 The water used is free.

 The water can be used for harvesting processes,

 Disadvantages

 The dam is very expensive to built.

9

 Very Few places where dams can be constructed.

 The water can flood nearby areas and can affect nearby habitats.

 If there is less rain then we may not have enough water to run the
turbines.
10

 Wind turbines are used to produce electricity from wind.

 Wind turns the blades and blades turn the turbines
Advantages
 Few safety risks.
 Wind is freely available.
 No green house gases are made.
 Disadvantages

 Lots of wind turbines are needed to produce enough power. 11

 Turbines can be only built in windy areas.

 It is not always windy.

12

 Solar power uses energy from the sun.

 Solar panels converts sun light int heat water.

Advantages

 Sunlight is freely available in nature.

 Sun will always be there during our lifetime.

 Disadvantages
13
 Solar panels are very expensive.

 It takes a lot of space to keep the solar panels.

 When it is cloudy or at night there is not enough light to produce power.

14

 Is the heat from earth.

 Rocks underground are very hot and water can be pumped

through these rocks to warm it up.

Advantages

 Does not produce green house gases.

 Energy source is free and will not run out.

 Disadvantages.
15
 Very few places where we can built geothermal power
stations.

 Harmful gases and minerals can come out of the ground

below.

 These plants are difficult to control.

16

 Energy produced due to high tides produced in the oceans as a result of

gravitational pull between earth and moon.

Advantages

 Tides are limitless and will not run out.

 No green house gases are produced.

 It is reliable because we know the time when high tides are created.
Disadvantages
17
 Animals and plants nearby may be affected.

 High tides are generated only two times a day so we can produce
electricity only at that time.

 Very difficult to transfer energy to land.

18

 Energy released by the combustion of biological wastes from

living or recently living organisms.

 Combustion is carried out in absence of oxygen.

 Methane is produced.

Advantages

 Produce very less pollution than fossil fuels.

 Does not cause acid rains.

 Biological wastes can be found locally.

 Disadvantages
19
 It is inefficient(30% efficiency).

 Releases very harmful solid carbon particles into the atmosphere.
