Meaning of stock market

A stock market, equity market or share market is the

aggregation of buyers and sellers of stocks (also called
shares), which represent ownership claims on
businesses; these may include securities listed on a
public stock exchange as well as those only traded
privately.
Examples of the latter include shares of private
companies which are sold to investors through equity
crowd funding platforms. Stock exchanges list shares
of common equity as well as other security types, e.g.
corporate bonds and convertible bonds.
Functions of financial market

 Mobilisation of savings and channelizing

them into the most productive uses.
Facilitating price discovery.
Providing liquidity to financial assets.
Reducing the cost of transactions.
Types of financial markets
meaning of stock exchANGE

A stock exchange is a place or an organization through

which, individuals and organizations can trade stocks. Many
large companies have their stock listed on a stock exchange.
This makes the stock more liquid and thus more attractive
to many investors. It may also act as a guarantor of
settlement. Other stocks may be traded "over the counter"
(OTC), that is, through a dealer. Some large companies will
have their stock listed on more than one exchange in
different countries, so as to attract international investors.
Stock exchanges may also cover other types of securities,
such as fixed interest securities (bonds) or (less frequently)
derivatives, which are more likely to be traded OTC.
Stock exchanges in india

Stock exchanges provide an organised market for

transactions in securities and other securities. There
are 23 stock exchanges in the country, 21 of them
being regional ones with allocated areas. Three others
set up in the reforms era, viz., National Stock
Exchange (NSE), the Over the Counter Exchange of
India Limited (OTCEI) and Inter-connected Stock
Exchange of India Limited (ISE).
Bombay Stock exchange

The Bombay Stock Exchange or BSE is the oldest

stock exchange in Asia. The Bombay Stock Exchange
was established in 1875. There are around 4,800
Indian companies listed with the stock exchange. It
is among the five biggest stock exchanges in the
world in terms of transactions volume. It has
changed to a full fledged corporation under the BSE
Scheme, 2005 and its name was changed to the
Bombay Stock Exchange Limited.
National stock exchange of india

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) is one of

the largest and most advanced stock markets in India.
The National Stock Exchange of India was promoted
by leading financial institutions at the behest of the
Government of India, and was incorporated in 1992. In
1993, it was recognized as a stock exchange. NSE
commenced operations in 1994. The NSE is the world’s
third largest stock exchange in terms of transaction. It
is located in Mumbai, the financial capital of India.
