Lesson Title: Introduction to Literature: Prose Course and Year: Bachelor of Arts major in English Course Title: Philippine Literature (Lit 221) Lesson Length: 1 hour and 30 minutes ANALYZE LEARNERS • Learners’ general characteristics; • Entry Characteristics; and • Learning Styles LEARNERS’ GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS: The lesson is designed for first year BA English students. The class is composed of 12 female and 3 male students. In general the students have the same socio-demographic profile in terms of income, age, religion and ethnic group. ENTRY CHARACTERISTICS
The students in this class are
skilled in the use of laptops and smart phones. However, their proficiency with this technology is limited to the use of social media apps and youtube channels. They are also fond of reading from wattpad application about stories on love and romance. LEARNING STYLES
Although the class is comprised of
students of all learning styles, most of students in this class are tactile learners. STATE OBJECTIVES This lesson is based on the course syllabus on Philippine Literature (Lit 211). At the end of the session the students are expected to:
1. Discuss and explain using their own words the
meaning and element of literature; 2. Provide examples of literary works that are categorized as Prose; 3. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in analyzing literary works by looking at its elements; and 4. Apply what they had learned by creating an essay, short story or a play. SELECT METHODS, MEDIA, AND MATERIALS • Recap/review previous lessons • Introduction of new lesson: Elements of Literature: Prose 1. Group activity where they will define the elements of literature using their prior knowledge. 2. Unlocking the concepts with the use of a short film on Introduction to Literature: Prose 3. Discussion of concepts using a powerpoint presentation, overhead projector and audio system. UTILIZE TECHNOLOGY, MEDIA, AND MATERIALS PREPARE THE MATERIALS:
A sample of Prose (Essays, Legends, passages
from short stories or novels) will be provided. The lessons will be mastered by the instructor. Additional readings will be done to further supplement the discussion. PREPARE THE ENVIRONMENT
Since the class is relatively small, the
chairs will be arranged in a round table manner. This will further motivate the students to express their ideas freely. Laptop, overhead projector and audio system will be prepared and tested before the class. PREPARE THE LEARNERS
Engaging questions will be asked.
Rewards in the form of praises and acknowledgement will be given. Samples of literary works were given last meeting and the learners were instructed to read these. REQUIRE LEARNER PARTICIPATION The following activities will be utilized: Recitation as recap/review of previous lessons
Small group activity: The students will be
