Topic- Prevalence of Obesity and Overweight Citizens
in the U.S.
● How it’s diagnosed- BMI is an estimate of body fat based on comparing a
person's weight to his or her height
● BMI- KG/ Sq Meters
● class 1 obesity: BMI 30–34
● class 2 obesity: BMI 35–39
● class 3 ("extreme" or "severe") obesity: BMI 40 or higher
Obesity Statistics

● Tripled since 1975

● “ study conducted in 2008 showed the number had sky rocketed to 59 million obese adults and 134

million overweight adults just in the U.S.” (kirby)
