Rule 24 of the Rules of Civil Procedure allows a person to petition a Philippine court to take a deposition to perpetuate testimony regarding any matter that may be litigated, even if a case has not yet been filed. The petition must be filed in the court of any expected adverse party's residence and can seek to preserve the testimony of either the petitioner or another person if their testimony might be needed for a future but not yet initiated case. Rule 24 provides a means to perpetuate important testimony that could be used in a later action before the action is actually commenced.
