What is Social Media?
Social Media is a platform that lets us participate in social networking. We
can share our posts on various social media platforms to improve business
visibility. Today it is the best source for news updates, marketing,
education, and entertainment.

Social Consumers:
• The social consumer is a new breed of engaged and informed customer and that means
every industry, every vertical and ultimately every business is going to be rethought in a
social way.

1. The youth of today are materialistic, and not guilty about it

3. Impulsive and novelty-seeking
4. A value conscious luxury market -- an oxymoron of sorts

The Role of Social Media in Segmentation:


• SM help the company identify the Audience.
• The information flow in SM help identify the basis for a better
segmentation by tracking the consumers’ characteristics, needs, opinions
and interests

 behavioural measures (usage, attitudes, brand loyalty)
Digital Communities:
• A community enables an individual to have a chance to improve their
professional and personal network. Naturally, communities contain a
diversity of opinions, ideas, and knowledge from others that one would never
encounter alone without their inspiration and resources.

mobile phones, the Internet and e-mail to communicate, network and
disseminate information.

a community of people. Channels in this zone
include, Twitter, Face book, and LinkedIn.
Social Commerce: This zone is specifically
for online buying and selling of goods and
services between individuals and groups.
Channels in this zone include, TripAdvisor,
Yelp and Groupon.
Social Publishing: Deals with spreading
content or information about a certain topic
to an audience. Channels in this zone
include, BlogSpot/ blogger, Tumblr, Flickr,
and YouTube
Social Entertainment: This zone comprises of
social media channels used for play,
enjoyment and entertainment. This includes
games, art, and videos. Channels in this zone
include, MySpace, Instagram and
Come2play.
