CAPSTONE (CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION

Educational Outbound Trip


General Orientation
Background Information
• This experiential course explores the various factors that promote
creativity and innovation in individuals, teams, and organizations.
This course is designed to introduce STEM students to the basic
principles and processes of creativity and innovation.
• It examines the critical role of creativity and innovation in various
STEM fields. Modes of instruction include workshops, case studies,
simulations, field trips, team design challenges, supported by guest
speakers and relevant readings.
• Students actively participate in a community-based project that
allows them to apply variables that affect influence creativity and
innovation in real-world settings.
Background Information
• Field Trip - This course provides the
opportunity for students to encounter and
explore creativity and innovation in an
authentic setting in order to deepen and
enhance classroom learning
experiences. Through discourse with focal
persons in the field trip sites and observations
of processes and key technologies, students are
expected to have significant cognitive gains
(Kiesel, 2005) and new experiences that will
further increase their interest and engagement
(Kiesel, 2005; Bonderup Dohn 2011).
Background Information
• Aside from cognitive gains, the
students are also expected to develop
affective gains such as more positive
feelings toward a topic
(Csikszentmihalyi & Hermanson,
1995; Nadelson & Jordan, 2012).
Ultimately, it is expected that the
learning experiences that can be
recalled and useful long after a visit
(Salmi, 2003; Falk & Dierking, 1997;
Wolins, Jensen, & Ulzheimer, 1992).
Background Information
• The students are expected to
come up with a Field Trip Output
which summarizes the
experiences as well as the
cognitive and affective gains.
• The Field Trip Output will be
graded using a rubric.

Outbound trip OUTPUT
• An Outbound Portfolio will be the
product of the Outbound Trip.
• It consists of:
• Worksheets for the Three Sites to be
Visited
• Individual Student Reflections
• Documentation Pictures

• 6 MEMBERS IN A GROUP!
• Composed of pairs (buddy-system)
Important reminders
• Student MUST comply with the basic
requirements set by the University
• Valid Medical Certificate/Clearance issued by a
Licensed Physician affiliated to any hospital
• Duly Signed Parental Consent and Undertaking
• Duly Signed Waiver

OUTBOUND TRIP!
Important reminders
• Failure to join the Outbound Trip will
constitute an ABSENCE* for the regular
classes and the Capstone Classes for the day
of the trip
• Students NOT joining the Outbound trip are
REQUIRED to partake in an
ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITY of the same
nature and rigor as that of the field trip.
• Students take FULL RESPONSIBILITY of performing this activity.
*Except for students with APPROVED VALID EXCUSE letter
addressed to the SHS Principal

• Assembly Time – 5:00 AM
• ETD at UST – 5:30 AM
• No late comers will be
accommodated!
• No one will be fetched along the way!
• ETA at UST – 6:30 PM
• Dropping-off along the way is not
allowed!
Important reminders
•The Outbound Trip is
considered a CLASS DAY.
• Thus, students are expected to
observe proper Thomasian
decorum.
• Further, rules on student behavior
as stipulated in the Learners’
Handbook apply for the whole
duration of the trip.

• GOING TO THE SITE
• Senior High School Shirt/Any Yellow Shirt
• P.E. Jogging Pants
• P.E. Rubber Shoes
• GOING BACK TO UST
• Pioneer Shirt/Any white shirt
• Decent Jeans/Maong
• P.E. Rubber Shoes (No slippers!)
READ! (no ripped jeans/jeggings)
Important reminders
• Students are expected to bring their OWN FOOD for the Outbound
Trip
• For safety purposes, tudents are NOT ALLOWED to purchase food
during the trip EXCEPT for the STOPOVER
• Breakfast & Lunch
• Heavy Meal/Rice Meal
• AM and PM Snacks
• Healthy snacks
• Food items should not be in their original packaging. All food items
must be put in reusable plastic containers.
• LET US MINIMIZE WASTES!
• Class officers are to bring GARBAGE BAGS/SACKS for wastes.

• Ample amount of food
• Notebook and pen
• Camera or camera phone* for documentation
• Extra clothes (white shirt) and
undergarments
