The Devil and Satan
 Habakkuk 2:14
14 For
the earth will be filled with the
knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the
waters cover the sea.

2 Peter 3:9
“God is not willing that any
should perish, but that all
should come to repentance”.
 MAN

MAN who SINS

 ‘And God saw all that He had
MAN created and it was very good.
(Gen 2)

“By one man sin entered the world

and death by sin” (Rom. 5:12).

“Sin living in me… I know that

MAN of SIN nothing good lives in me, that is, in
my sinful nature”. (Rom 7:17-18).
 Romans 7:18-20
18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in
my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what
is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For what I do
is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not
want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do
what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it,
but it is sin living in me that does it.
 The word ‘devil’ in the New Testament is
translated from only 2 words.

Diabolos, and Daimonion

Diabolos - Literally means, ‘slanderer’ or ‘false

accuser’

Daimonion - This Greek word is the word used to

describe a certain diseases in the NT.
 Satan, the word in the Old and New
Testament.

Satan – Hebrew word used to signify ‘to

oppose’. This word is used in place of
‘adversary’, ‘resist’ and ‘withstand’.
 Romans 5:12
12 Therefore,
just as sin entered the world through
one man, and death through sin, and in this way
death came to all men, because all sinned.

By context we know that the one man is Adam

Death came from sin
All die, because all sin
 Romans 7:18
. 18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in
my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what
is good, but I cannot carry it out.

We have a sinful nature.

We know what is right, but nature wants
otherwise.
 Romans 7:21-25
21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do
good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner
being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another
law at work in the members of my body, waging
war against the law of my mind and making me a
prisoner of the law of sin at work within my
members. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will
rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be
to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
 Heb. 9:26
But now he has appeared once for all at
the end of the ages to do away with sin
by the sacrifice of himself.

1 Pet. 2:24
24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the
tree, so that we might die to sins and live for
righteousness; by his wounds you have
been healed.
 Rom. 6:23

1 Corinthians 15:21,22
21 Forsince death came through a man, the
resurrection of the dead comes also through
a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ
all will be made alive.

proceed evil thoughts, adulteries,
fornications, murders, thefts,
covetousness, wickedness, deceit,
blasphemy, pride, foolishness; all these
evil things come from within and defile
the man”
 James 1:14-15
13 When tempted, no one should say,
“God is tempting me.” For God cannot
be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt

when, by his own evil desire, he is
dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after
desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth
to death.
 Romans 8:13
13 For if you live according to the sinful
nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you
put to death the misdeeds of the body,
you will live, 14 because those who are
led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
 2 Samuel 24:1
Again the anger of the LORD burned against
Israel, and He incited

Satan rose up against Israel and incited
David to take a census of Israel. 2 So
David said to Joab….
 Christ said to Peter in Mark 8:33
“Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You
do not have in mind the things of God,
but the things of men”
Job 2:3 - “Then the LORD said to Satan,….though you
incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”

Job 19:21 - “Have pity on me, my friends, have

pity, for the hand of God has struck me.

Job 42:11 - “They comforted and consoled

him over all the trouble the LORD had
brought upon him, and each one gave him a
piece of silver and a gold ring”.
 Matt 4:8,9
8 Again,
the devil took him to a very high
mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of
the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will
give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and
worship me.”

Gen 3:14
14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because
you have done this, “Cursed are you above all the
livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on
your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your
life.
 Genesis 6:5-7
5 The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness
on the earth had become, and that every
inclination of the thoughts of his heart was
only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved
that he had made man on the earth, and his
heart was filled with pain. 7 So the LORD said,
“I will wipe mankind, whom I have created,
from the face of the earth….for I am grieved
that I have made them.”
 Philippians 3:20
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we
eagerly await a Savior from there, the
Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power
that enables him to bring everything
under his control, will transform our lowly
bodies so that they will be like his
glorious body”.
 1 Timothy 6:11
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and
pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight
of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life…
…until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15
which God will bring about in his own time—God,
the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and
Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and who
lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has
seen or can see. To him be honor and might
forever. Amen.
