INTRODUCTION
 Wheel chair is a device used by disabled people to enhance their
personal mobility.
 Wheel chair available in market are operated manually or powered.
 According to the data from the National health survey in the year
1994-95 , roughly 0.4% of the people having age between 18 to 65
uses this chairs .
 In case of climbing upon stairs there is always need of persons to hold
and help in climbing .
 To overcome upon this mechanism of working ,a powered operated
wheel chair is developed in which electrical energy converted to
mechanical energy.
 The aim of this project is to design a wheel chair Capable of climbing
and descending staircases.
PURPOSE
 Design an electrical Wheelchair able to climb UP/DOWN stairs.
PRINCIPLE
 The principle of semi-automatic stair climbing is to reduce the
human efforts for moving one place to another or shifting of
ground floor to upper floor.

 Especially design for those who are unable to walk.

 In our project we are using continuous track (tank chain wheel)

in the place of normal wheels setup to enable the wheelchair to
climb and down the stair cases.
MARKET RESEARCH
 Research existing solutions in the market.
DESIGN PROCESS

Continuous
track(tank chain)
Rear wheel Universal wheel

SPECIFICATION & CAPACITY
FUTURE SCOPE
 Automated wheelchair can be operated by wireless remote
which can reduce the wiring arrangements.
 instead of using acceleration motion we can use eye retina using
optical sensor to move wheel chair accordingly.
 We can use voice command IC’s to interface our voice signal with
micro-controller.
 This system can be extended by including GSM which sends an
SMS during emergency.
 Research are going on development of handicap wheel chair
using nervous system of human.
ADVANTAGES
 A handicapped person a without legs can use this and become
independent.

 Less hardware requires i.e. compact.

 Economical

 Reduce manpower

 User friendly
